Social Media vs. Originality

"Be yourself, the world worships the original."

Social Media vs. Originality

Technology has made many positive impacts and enhancements on today's society, it's a way to keep us all connected. Social media is such a tremendous part of Millenials everyday lives whether its Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. People are constantly posting new pictures, videos, and statuses.

We have this obsession with updating everyone on who we are with, what we are doing and where we are. How many times have you opened one of these apps I just mentioned to THE SAME POSTS. Scrolling through Instagram and seeing the same selfies posted by different people. Girls with their kissy faces and guys throwing up some sort of sign. Even on Snapchat, everyone posting the sunset that evening or their Starbucks coffee that morning (I must say I'm guilty of doing the same). We are so reliant on the attention of our followers.

Where is our privacy nowadays? We do not have to update everyone and their brother on everything we are doing! Some of the most beautiful moments in life are private. Has it been forgotten that we are still entitled to our privacy? Image, millennials feel the need to put off this certain facade. The conclusion I've come to is that not only today's society but social media as well has pressured us to try and fit in. Having these social media platforms allows us to alter ourselves into whoever we want to be. Picking and choosing the pieces of our life we want to show. Absolutely do not get caught up in this fake world on social media. We need to go out and live in the REAL world.

There is so much for everyone to experience, learn and be exposed to. How are we supposed to do that while sitting behind a screen? Today we have lost our individuality due to society. We want validation, acceptance and to be liked by our followers so desperately. Authentic, how often do you come across original people? Rarely because society makes it frowned upon to be real. We can be so insecure at times that we don't even realize our true self is our most attractive self. Be weird, be different and be careless. You weren't put on this earth to be like everybody else, each and every one of us is unique and different in our own ways. Instead of trying to fake who we are, we should just be ourselves ( so cliche, I know). Instead of feeling ashamed or insecure about ourselves for not "fitting", we should feel a sense of pride. How cool is it to think you are your own person.

Just because society is telling us or showing us to act or look a specific way, certainly doesn't mean we should have to. Stop comparing yourself to others, at the end of the day you are only hurting yourself. Don't ruin your self-esteem by comparing yourself to the people you follow.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
