Let’s be completely real.

Breaks From Social Media Are Totally Necessary

I'm not even going to go there. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to be one of those people who sit here and just bashes social media. I have to acknowledge that, like everything, there is both good and bad that goes along with it.

Social media is wonderful for so many different reasons. It connects you with friends, family, strangers, essentially anyone. It also provides humor, updates on things you might care about, and so much more.

There are some good aspects of it, definitely. I don't agree with people who just flat out claim social media is the devil and is solely horrible.

That being said, there are also a lot of reasons why social media isn't the best thing in the world. But that doesn't peanut mean we have to write it off as completely negative. It's just like everything else: okay in moderation.

And this is where I think a lot of people struggle. It's hard to stick to using it in moderation. Because of the technology we have these days with smartphones, for example, we have immediate access to social media 24/7, and that is not an exaggeration. Everything has become so immediate and automatic these days.

Half of the time we are using social media, we probably don't even want to be, necessarily. It has just become such a force of habit that we do it without realizing it and before we know it we are spending our days consumed in other people's lives, how ours look, and sometimes stuff that literally has nothing to do with us.

This isn't great.

It's important to either take set breaks from it or become better about only using it a limited amount of time daily in moderation. I personally have made it a goal of mine to try to do both of these things.

Sometimes even just taking a one day break or a two-day break is great and puts things into perspective. It doesn't have to be a super extensive break that lasts six months or whatever it is. Sometimes even these small breaks are enough to get the job done.

Taking a step back and stopping yourself from getting so consumed in anything, but in this case, social media is always a good thing. Honestly, sometimes it just gets to be way too much.

Brb, taking a break from my phone now that I've finished writing this.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
