I know what you're thinking, it's a pretty crappy way to start the New Year with a blizzard heading our way. Snow isn't the greatest, but you still have to be prepared for it. Being prepared for many people is booking it to the nearest grocery store and clearing the shelves of all the bread and milk. I understand that bread and milk might seem like go-to options for the storm, but maybe you want to rethink that.

If you stop to think about it there are some better options out there that make more sense to pick up on your shopping trip. Things like batteries, flashlights, canned goods, water, and blankets. Batteries power your flashlights, which you'll need in case you lose power and need to see.

Canned goods have a long shelf life and although they aren't the most appetizing, they can be a reliant food source if you have no way to get out for food. Water is also a must-have in case your pipes freeze or you are unable to drink the tap water. Also, like canned goods, water never really expires and can be cooled and heated for different purposes.

Now that you know some alternative supplies it might be time to put that bread and milk back on the shelf and pick up some of these more useful items!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
