Remember when you used to argue with your parents all the time and declare that you will never understand them? Well, a few years later, and you realize that in many ways, you're starting to act and think like them. Here are nine sure signs that you're becoming more and more like your parents.
1. You become the weather forecaster
You've started to check the weather every day and even dress accordingly. On days with drastic weather changes, you even make sure to message all your friends and let them know about the unusually cold day. You wouldn't want any of them to get sick (even though you'd probably bring them medicine if they do).
2. Grocery shopping is fun
What used to be the most dreaded chore back in high school is now a delightful trip for you. Should you buy pork or chicken this week? What kind of foods can you make with these mushrooms on sale? Long checkout lines and crowds of people cannot deter you from the 39 cent mangoes that are on sale today. The food possibilities are endless, and you just can't wait to try new food recipes.
3. New furniture and home decor? Oh boy!
Cleaning your room and changing the way your room looks used to be something you avoided with all your might, but now, something about Ikea and its self-assembled desks and 5-headed lamps just makes home decor oh so irresistible. Nowadays when you hit up Target, you return home with not only new clothes but also a whole lot of small succulents and desk decorations that you definitely did not need.
4. "Young people these days..."
It's a life-changing moment when you see parents and their kids arguing in public, and you unconsciously side with the parents. Your brain has finally matured to the point where you realize how illogical some kids (including your past self) could be.
5. Ramen and pasta is not an acceptable diet
You don't know when it happened, but your diet has expanded from the top ramen and pasta cycle. You're making sure to incorporate vegetables and fruits into your diet, and cooking them to your own taste. Suddenly, you're eating these healthy foods not only because they're healthy, but also because they actually taste just as good as easy mac.
6. People you know are getting married
It's only been a few years since high school graduation, but you're already starting to see classmates post engagement photos. On one hand, you're ecstatic that they've found the love of their lives. On the other hand, your brain is going through major panic because time is passing by so quickly without you even realizing. When you get to the point where time seems to be passing by too quickly, it doesn't slow down again.
7. Looking older is no longer a priority
Remember when you wore mature clothing and put on heavier makeup to try to look older? Now, all you want is to be able to look younger. If only you could stay looking like you're 20 forever.
8. You monitor your social media
Don't you miss those days in high school where your friends tagged you in the most atrocious pictures and posted on your wall for you? Now, every time you post something, you have to wonder whether it would be appropriate for your boss or coworkers to see. No one wants to be fired over something they posted on Facebook.
9. You're prepared when you go out
Instead of the "we'll figure it out on the spot" mentality, you've started to prepare yourself when you go out. If it's a long day out, you'll prepare a bottle of water and some tissues just in case someone needs during the day. If there's any chance of rain, that umbrella will also be in your backpack. You want to be prepared for any possible unexpected situation that may arise.
