Ever since I was born, I have lived in the same county, in the south. For college, I moved to a new town, but I still live down here in the good ole south. Having friends from northern parts of the country, you start to realize there's certain things that are only normal when you live in the south.
1. Sweet tea
Apparently, sweet tea is just not a thing in the north. Not sure how you guys survive like that, but to each his own.
2. "Y'all"
I mean how else are you supposed to refer to a group of people?
3. Cotton fields
Cotton fields, cotton fields everywhere.
4. Sunflowers
Don't forget about the sunflower fields and the photoshoots that take place there!
5. Weather
You know to be prepared for the sun, rain, snow or a hurricane all in one day.
6. The beach
The beach is more than likely a close distance so you spend a lot of your time at the beach.
7. ...or a pool
If you're not by the beach, you know SOMEONE with a pool, and 8 out of 12 months it's warm enough down here to swim.
8. Backyard BBQs
It's never a bad time to have a good old backyard BBQ.
9. The "accent"
Apparently, we have a distinguishing country accent, but I just don't see it.
10. Southern hospitality
At this point, we don't even recognize that we say it. It's just how we were taught to speak.
11. College football is one of the most important things to ever exist
I'm not sure why, but there's nothing more important the college football down here.
12. "Bless your heart"
Sometimes it is used as a term of endearment, but sometimes...well you, southerns know what it means.
There's just some things that only the true southerns can understand.
