'Sierra Burgess Is A Loser' Is Catfishing At Its Finest Not A Cute Rom-Com

Because lying to someone about who you are doesn't always have a happy ending.

A couple of weeks ago I explained to my parents what cat-fishing is. It is a concept unheard of in older generations. Probably because of the rapid increase in technology making cat-fishing more possible.

If you, like my parents, do not know what cat-fishing is. I'll sum it up for you. It is impersonating someone else online. Like if I claimed to be Miley Cyrus on Facebook. Then using your fake identity to chat with other online users.

Unfortunately, I have seen it happen to people who are close to me. They actually believe this gorgeous mystery cybergirl from Ukraine is in love with them and would be with them if only they could afford the plane ticket. $2000 later, someone is left both broke and heartbroken. It is so sad to think that someone you have feelings for uses you. Unfortunately, it happens all the time online. Many times cat-fishing is made possible because they only message each other online without any facial interaction.

I am a big fan of romantic comedies and I love when the underdog comes out on top, but I am not exactly sure I like the message behind the new movie "Sierra Burgess Is A Loser." She essentially cat-fishes a guy she really likes because he texts her believing she is the most popular girl in school. They develop a relationship through texting and long phone calls. Then he goes on a date with the girl he thinks he is texting.

The whole storyline involves a lot of manipulation of this poor guy, who honestly is excited about the prospects of a new relationship and has no idea who is actually sending him the messages. I don't know about you but if someone lied about who they were for weeks I don't think it would end with me whisking them away to homecoming.

We all want a happy ending, but this one doesn't seem like it was deserved.

Seriously dude, she just cat-fished you and you now want her to be your girlfriend. Not likely. All is not well that ends well if there is no plausible explanation for the outcome.

Trust is the foundation for a healthy relationship. But this movie suggests that you can have a relationship with the hot popular football player if you lie to him about who you are first. Sierra also tricks her crush Jamey into kissing her when he believes he is kissing someone else. How could that even be remotely considered okay? Can you imagine what would have happened if he opened his eyes? It is just downright creepy.

In today's society finding a significant other online is common. It seems like most of the people I know who are dating someone met them on a dating app. I am not sure about you, but I am not fond of this new system. Nothing beats face-to-face time interaction. You can never really know a person until you have one-on-one conversations. Nonverbal communication is being completely left out of the picture here.

I really wanted to like the film, but it got big thumbs down for me. The acting is great, but that is greatly diminished because the storyline encourages ideas that have questioning moral.

This movie is not a true example of how healthy relationships begin. Please, let's end the catfishing, put down our phones, and start making real connections with people outside of cyberspace.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
