Global Dance Festival is one of those events that you look forward to every year. The lineups are huge with some of the biggest names in EDM descending upon Arizona for one wild night. This year though, Global Dance and Relentless Beats have decided to mix it up and host a 15 Minutes of Fame competition where 12 local DJ’s can show us what they've got for a chance at an opening slot at Global Dance Festival Arizona.

This is a huge opportunity for local DJ's to get on a stage in front of a couple hundred people and prove why they should be the one to play at Global Dance Festival Arizona. But it isn’t all just about that one spot, there are also be cash prizes and some industry professionals may be hanging out in the crowd.

This is an opportunity for local artists to gain some exposure, get some practice in a packed venue, and the opportunity to impress the right people in order to land a gig that could make their career take off.

It is awesome that Relentless and Global Dance are willing to put on a unique show that is all about promoting local talent. Arizona has been labeled an up and coming state not just for our festivals and events, but our artists as well.

The 15 Minutes of Fame contest will not only help some of our local artists increase in popularity, but it will show who just isn't quite ready for the big leagues yet. I have a feeling that this contest will push a lot of DJ's to become better either through winning a slot at a major festival or falling short of their true potential.

Musical styles will include anything from house to dubstep and from trance to trap which will ensure that there will be plenty of electronic music variety. The competition will take place on August 12th at the Monarch Theater at 9 P.M with tickets only being $10. Make sure to come out and support the local scene and see if you can pick who the next Bijou or Ghastly will be.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
