Why We Shouldn't Take People For Granted
Diana Schimenti

Many of us take people for granted, like it's just a given for them to always be there with us. I know I am guilty for this. However, the more I live my life the more I realize that people aren't forever. We constantly say that we need to treat life for what it is , precious, because we don't know when it's going to end... but same goes with people.

People are precious. Without those around us where would we be, the people around us make us. So why is it so hard to show them how much we love them? Why is it so hard for us to let them know that they matter to us? At one point or another, everyone is guilty for taking friends and family for granted. We deny that we do that because we just don't want to believe it, but it's time to admit that we are doing it and change it.

People are precious. Without each other we wouldn't be anything. We should stop using each other and killing each other for "benefits" that won't even work out in the long wrong. The only beneficial thing in life is helping each other, taking care of each other, showing each other that together we can truly make a difference. Separate we are ordinary but together we are extraordinary.

With recent events... I think we are seeing that we do need to change how we treat people. With all the killings and mass shootings we realize that people that we love can be gone in a heartbeat. One year, one month, one day, one hour, one minute, one second... the one we love may not be with us anymore.

tomorrow isn't guaranteed and neither are the ones we love. We dread to talk about our loved ones dying but it happens everyday. Everyday someone loses the one they love and they are stuck thinking that they wished they treated them better. They wish they told them they loved them more. They wish for one more chance with them to let them know they matter. So why can't we learn from them? Why can't we grasp the fact that tomorrow is guaranteed for the people we love or even ourselves. We grow up thinking we are invincible but we aren't, so let's spread the love. Let's realize how important those around us are in our lives and show them.

So let's make a change. Lets stop letting hate get in the way. Go to the people you love. Hug them. Kiss them. Tell them you love them. Tell them how much you appreciate them. Tell them that they matter in your life because they might not know that. Take them out to lunch every now and then. Create inside jokes that you will remember forever. Create memories to hold on to. Forget about all the issues and problems you had with someone years ago, forgive and forget and treat them how you want to be treated. Let's show people how much they matter to us.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
