Why You Should Put Yellow Springs, OH On Your Travel List
Presly Phillips

I know it sounds strange to put such a small town in your list of places to see but trust me it’s worth the visit. It is known as a “hippie town” that has cute shops and interesting hiking trails, so if you are into that kind of thing, I recommend it.

The hiking is peaceful and adventurous. Yellow Springs has multiple hiking trails around the place. The trails include hills, bridges and little waterfalls and streams. My personal favorite is the Glen Helen Nature Preserve where there is an orange tinted waterfall hidden amongst the trails. The colors of the nature trails are always brightly shining at Yellow Springs. Everything is rich and refreshing while you walk through their woods.

Downtown there are little shops and diners that are small and cute. My favorite diner is the Williams Eatery & Gathery Place where the outside of the building is covered with vines and the inside is cute and has a sitting area that is kind of like a sunroom. The food there is delicious and unbelievably good. The coffee shops are artsy and creative with good tasting coffee. My favorite coffee shop is the Spirited Goat Coffee House. In the Coffee House, they have local art decorating the bright fun walls and occasionally a local artist playing music for you as you enjoy your coffee.

The shops include bohemian clothes, tie-dye’s, oils and amazing handmade jewelry. A couple of my favorite shops that include these things are the House of Ravenwood Tarot Readings and Gifts which has dreamcatchers and crystals. The Area around the Asanda Imports has more bookshops, pottery and amazing jewelry. There is also a record store called Toxic Beauty Records that is upstairs in a loft and has a good selection of records. Also, if you are into antiques there is antique shops around the area such as the Atomic Fox antique shop. Each of these shops are unique and have great selections.

Downtown there are also local art shops such as the Village Artisans Co-Op where you can enjoy local creations. In Yellow Springs, there is a lot of street artists standing on the sidewalks and showing what they got.

There are great bookstores that create a home feel. My favorite bookstore there is Dark Star Books & Comics where they have a black cat that is always there protecting its bookstore. Inside there is both old and new books and they always carry a good selection of books. I have gotten multiple books from that place and each where decently priced. If you are into comics, they have a good selection of those as well. My favorite thing about that bookstore is the look and feel of the place. I could honestly be in there for hours on end.

Yellow Springs has one of the best communities I have seen in any of my travels. Everybody there are kind and are all there to enjoy the beautiful scenery Yellow Springs has to offer. Its trails are absolutely stunning and downtown is the cutest area. It is perfect for a day or weekend trip. There is plenty to see and do and if you are into any of the things I mentioned above I would highly recommend making the trip.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
