The time of year has come when we all just crave a break. As March rapidly approaches, the rush is on to find the perfect spring break trip, one with a beach and lots of partying. Everyone has hopes to match the expectations that movies like Springbreakers and Dirty Grandpa depict; however seeing as the majority of us are poor or not even 21, these hopes may seem wasted.
Whether you plan on returning home or booking a vacation, here are a few tips to smooth out the process.
1. Think about the dates and weather this entails for particular locations...
For us at Clemson, break comes early and temps are projected to remain low- sorry but Dirty Myrtle isn't really an option this year!
Remember beaches aren't the only cool spring break option!!! Look into cities or nature trips...
I'll be visiting NYC for my break- shows, sightseeing, and shopping!
2. Research Package Deals
Travel Zoo is a great place for destination inspiration, as well as finding cheap all-inclusive packages! This is a great outlet for planning international travel.
I have traveled to Ireland and the Grand Cayman this way, and plan on booking my summer travel through them as well!
3. Booking Flights
This is seemingly the most expensive part nowadays but this doesn't have to be the case.
A few tips to remember...
booking early (1-2 mos. in advance) can give you the best/ most options and lowest prices!
Sites like studentuniverse.com will give you a student discount on flights, while Google Flights can cross-check all airlines and dates, helping you book the lowest price.
I found a roundtrip to NYC for $146 (It would have cost me $450 to fly home to Dallas)
4. Recruit trip-goers!
The more friends you have, the cheaper the trip will be!
airbnb.com is a great way to shack up for cheap (also consider traveling to destinations where you may have friends/ family with houses)
For a summer music festival, I paid less than $100 for 3 nights in Gulf Shores, AL. to stay in a condo with a waterpark and ocean views.
In New York, we are couch surfing with friends, a great way to save for 1st Ave. shopping spree!
5. Don't be afraid to explore!
Leave the beaten trail of tour guides in search for local culture and mom and pop shops...the best finds are the ones you weren't looking for! In a new place, take the opportunity to try new foods, activities, talk to locals; all of these will allow you to grow in experience and knowledge!
6. If returning home...
Take advantage of seeing old friends and family, check out new spots in your local area, visit your state's main attractions, just because you're home doesn't mean you have to be bored!
The world awaits, get out there!
