As many of you know, Harry Potter weekends have come to an end. I thought that ABC family may live on under the pseudonym Freeform and that it wasn't really dead. I see now, that I was tragically mistaken.
I loved ABC family not only for its dedication to playing the whole Harry Potter series every few weekends but also for its wonderful series and occasional family movies. Although some shows were not very family appropriate, it still was a quality channel.
Until it wasn't. When Freeform took over, I was shocked, along with many others I'm sure. I was pleased, though, to see that they would continue the HP tradition that many of us fell in love with and marked our calendars for.
This charade went on for quite a while with Freeform pretending to cherish HP fans across the nation, and we were all deceived. It is not our fault, though. We cannot blame ourselves for some big shot's wrongdoing as he sits in a safe office somewhere.
Luckily for me, I already own all eight HP DVD's and they are safely nestled in my DVD folder in an undisclosed location, but I worry about those who may never get to buy the DVD's or who cannot find the bargain I did. What will they do?
We cannot mourn the HP weekends forever but we can be very, very irritated for quite some time. It was fun to watch the series together as a family, with friends, or even while doing chores around the house. Now we're forced to pull out the old DVD player, rent it on Roku (unfairly), or watch something else like TLC or HGTV. Sad.
Harry Potter weekend may be gone but it still lives on in our hearts (even though we still may accidentally look for it every once in a while). Maybe one day, Freeform will come to its senses and bring it back (we know ABC family would).
This isn't the end of the world as we still have our books and novelty items from the official Harry Potter shop, but it will still be a tragedy for decades to come.
Fear not, as they have not decided to make a remake with all new characters, which would be very atrocious, and they cannot take away our love for Hogwarts and the wizarding world.
We will always cherish Harry, Ron, Hermione, and everyone who helped them along the way through their journey. They will never be able to take away the memories.
We knew muggles would go insane one day, and 2018 is that time. Raise your wands.
(It's okay, though, the books were better, anyways.)
