Chicago’s very own Saba has been shining light on the city for quite a few years now. He’s been releasing his own music and collaborates with some of music’s best talent. From Chance The Rapper to Jay IDK, Saba always proves why he’s running with the rest of them. From the west side of Chicago, Saba
In 2016, Saba released his “Bucket List Project” which really set the stage for his career. The album assisted in a US and European tour in 2017. The US tour was assisted by Sylvan Lacue which was a great fit for the audience. Throughout 2017, Saba released a number of singles which prepared us for his forthcoming album.
On April 5th, Saba released his “CARE FOR ME” album. In my opinion, this is his best work yet. After the first listen, I was excited to play it back again. In today’s saturated music industry, it’s not common to release a body of work with that much replay value. For Saba, this was not very difficult. Even after several listens, it hasn’t lost replay value. The album flows so well together and it’s not hard to tell that this album is a piece of art. The way each track blends together but so different at the same time is incredible. The album really showcases Saba’s ability to tell a story on his tracks and he proves why he is one of the best at it.
The album is ten tracks long with only three features. The intro “BUSY / SIRENS” is a beautiful collaboration with theMIND and starts off the album perfectly. The fifth track is titled “FIGHTER” and features a chorus from KAINA. The track is filled with in-depth storytelling from Saba! The last feature on the album comes from Chance The Rapper. “LOGOUT” is a standout track from the album and Chance adds a nice touch to the end of it. The way they feed off eachother’s energy is amazing. Saba and Chance have collaborated numerous times on tracks like “Everbody’s Something” from Acid Rap and “Angels” from Coloring Book.
Besides the three features, Saba does his thing on the other seven tracks. This album dives into some personal topics and is very transparent. There are a few tracks that I really enjoy because of how real they are. “BROKEN GIRLS” is the second track on the album and Saba explores his love for broken girls and his own struggles. “GREY” elaborates on the struggles of not releasing the best tracks on a project. “The best song is probably on the B-side… The best song is probably on the demo.” Saba is referring to tracks that didn’t make the cut. Sometimes the ones that don’t make the cut are the best.
Saba continues to prove that he is one of the most unique artists in today’s music industry. His sound is unlike any other artist and it shows in his music. “CARE FOR ME” can be streamed on several platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.
