This is what it's like to Date a U.S Soldier.Â
You'll never know true pride until you can look in the eyes of your significant other and know that not only did he decide to protect his country, but he also decided to personally protect you.Â
Now, let's get real... Your boyfriend belongs to you, mine belongs to the military. You complain when you haven't seen him in a few hours, I will go months on end without seeing him. You get mad and ignore his call, I would do anything for just 5 minutes. You take him for granted, and I don't. As as harsh as that might sound, it's reality.Â
It's easy to walk away and date a civilian. But instead, we wake up to the empty side of the bed. We check our phones every second hoping for that five minute phone call or three word text message. We break down and cry when we miss him, but force and smile because the pride and love for our men is stronger than anything else. We cherish every moment because we are never promised tomorrow. So yes, it's very easy to walk away. But we choose to get up and stand strong next to our heroes the same way that they stand for our country.
It's long nights of wondering that the hell we're doing. It's reconsidering everything all the time, only to come to the conclusion that you wouldn't have it any other way. It's learning the phonetic alphabet and learning all the types of guns because you want them to feel appreciated and acknowledged when they try to talk to you about it.Â
It's watching war movies, knowing that it's more realistic to you than anyone else in the movie theater. Because half of your heart is overseas fighting for the right for them to be able to watch the movies.Â
People always say that they aren't capable to date a soldier; that they just can't "handle it". But what if the soldiers said that about fighting for us. What if all of them said that they couldn't handle it. Where would we be? Dating a soldier is exciting, it can be lonely, but it can allow you to realize how strong you actually are.Â
All of those nights laying in bed, all of the times that you doubted and wondered if it's worth it. All of that pointless thought goes to waste when you see them come home. Because that moment will pause time, and every long night won't matter anymore.Â
Dating a U.S. soldier is probably the craziest thing that I've ever done. But it's the best decision I've ever made.Â
