Rising Pop Star Queen: Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is going to be the next new artist to the pop music culture

Billie Eilish is an American singer/songwriter and at just 17 years old she is sweeping the boards in pop music. She released her debut single, "Ocean Eyes", which went viral in 2016 and has been rising ever since. Apple music named Billie as its newest UP NEXT artist in September 2017 and it's very easy to see why.

March 29, 2019 she released her debut studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. Collaborating on all her music with her brother Finneas she has released top songs like: "Lovely, "I Wish You Were Gay", and "Bellyache". Her homemade songs have been streamed more than a billion times on digital platforms and she has appeared on Ellen and Jimmy Fallon.

Along with her growing social media status, 15 million followers on Instagram people have begun adopt her striking visual aesthetic. She typically has her hair dyed in shades of electric blue or pale purple and is seen in an all-baggy anti-silhouette clothes. Her music and music videos are something of their own. She seems to build her own layered universe for fans to obsess over. She is the creative director for most of her music videos and the one that has been striking the world as of late was her "Bury a Friend Video". It plays on classic horror movies that she enjoyed watching, featuring her eminent possession and stabbed with needles in the back.

She insists on almost complete control saying "I could easily just be like, you know what, you're going to pick my clothes, someone else could come up with my video treatments, someone else will direct them and I wont have anything to do with them." But that simply isn't her style. "Everything could be easier if I wanted it to. But I'm not that kind of person and I'm not that kind of artist. and id rather die than be that kind of artist".

Billie Eilish has developed into a much stranger and more unique artist than she seemed to be initially. Her voice is pure and almost angelic her music themes are angsty and bleak. On her new album she favors creepy sound effects which flow with her visual aesthetic on social media and her videos- serial killers and monsters under the bed. She has bled jet-black liquid from her eyes and let a tarantula crawl across her face. She has managed to avoid trapdoors of internet controversy and is already considered being a role model. I would defiantly give her music a listen.

We Need More Than Memorials this Memorial Day
Cape Cod Irish

When I was a child, I used to look forward to Memorial Day Weekend from the time I returned to school after Christmas vacation. It was the yearly benchmark announcing the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation. It meant I was one step closer to regattas, swim meets and tennis matches.
