Rise & Grind With Upcoming Talent: RÈSIA

Upcoming music artist, Rèsia, reins from the streets of Brooklyn, New York and plans to take the music game to the next level. She is a driven, ambitious, and fierce artist on the prowl for opportunities, collaborations, and overall, making extraordinary music. By her being a lover of all genres of music, you can expect an amazing range of variety in her upcoming songs and videos. Rèsia currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, where she is moving quickly up the ranks with her sound and continues to build great relationships with some of Atlanta’s hottest artists. Rèsia is here to stay and is ready to impact the music industry with everything she has to offer.

How did you get your start in the field of music?

Five years ago, I went to an artist development studio in Atlanta because I realized that I have to really have skills; I have to perform a certain type of way and have a certain type of poise. I went there and developed my skills for about a year and a half. After that, when I felt that I was ready I started making connections with promoters, producers and I started working on my own music from there.

You're very well connected in the music industry so which celebrity would you say is your biggest and strongest supporter?

Yung Joc most definitely. He's been supporting me for the longest and shows me so much love. He's someone who genuinely wants to see me grow and wants the best for me and my music.

Because Lauryn Hill is one of your biggest inspirations, how has she impacted your music career?

She's impacted my career by helping me stay true to music and staying true to the art. That's one thing I know Lauryn Hill did. That's how she became so big just off of one album because of the art and the soul that she put into it, so I feel like that's the one thing I take away from her every time I enter a studio session or performance. She was boo'ed off stage and came back strong, and that happened to me as well when I was younger, ya' know, but it doesn't even matter because we both got back up after that. That's one thing that inspired me about her is that she always got back up no matter what.

What was your experience like performing with Ro James at the REVOLT Music Conference?

It was so spontaneous and such an amazing moment just to be on stage with someone who has amazing songs and for him to give me that opportunity I was really wowed.

Was attending the REVOLT Music Conference beneficial to your career? If so, how?

It was definitely beneficial because it gave me the opportunity to be in the mix. I met a lot of people and made a ton of connections. I had the opportunity to hang out with a huge producer while I was out there and I all around had no regrets at all. I would advise every independent artist or upcoming artist to go to the REVOLT Music Conference at least once just to get that experience and take full advantage of the opportunities there.

How would you describe your networking abilities?

I'm a MONSTER when it comes to networking. I grind. I'm from Brooklyn, New York so you already know I want it all! So networking is definitely my strong suit.

Is 'Love' your favorite topic to write and sing about?

For my first two songs which are about love it just seemed to happen that way, but I can't wait to show everybody what else I have in store.

What is your dream project?

My dream collaboration project would definitely be with Lauryn Hill, that's #1 on my list. There're so many different artists I want to work with, but truly I just want to create a project with art that's the best, featuring the best producers and the best people that can really inspire a change in music.

5 Years from now I will be...

A Superstar, have Grammy's, be in movies, the whole nine yards!

What are some motivational words you can share with your fans who are reading this interview?

For those who are into music, stay true to the music, stay true to the business, and work your ass off! Make sure you're always focused on the grind and don't pay attention to all of the outside noise that may be distracting you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
