Robyn Fenty, more popularly known as Rihanna the R&B singer just launched her new makeup line and the beauty industry is going crazy. Rihanna launched her makeup line Fenty Beauty last week in Sephora stores and online. The artist came out with a whopping 40 shades of foundation catering from people with albinism to people of the deepest darkest color, and it has been said that she wants to come out with even more!
Makeup lovers, especially women of color, are raving about her products and it's no secret why. Most of the time makeup brands release foundation from a range of 12-30 shades and if it is 30 only 6-8 of those cater to women of color. You can imagine when a makeup brand only releases 12 that number goes down more than half. The struggle of women of color finding their perfect foundation isn't new news, Rihanna has solved a lot of those problems, not only has she released different shades but as well as different undertones for each shade. In the picture down below you can see how her darker shade ranges are selling out.
Even if we were to put the diverse shade ranges aside, the actual quality of the products are sworn to be amazing as well. I've seen more than several unsponsored reviews on Youtube for Fenty Beauty and haven't come across one bad review yet. For the price, you can't beat it either, 34$ for a good quality foundation that is high end. Now if you aren't a makeup fiend like myself, you are probably thinking "that's a good deal?" Well most high end brands charge 60$ or more for a foundation and the fact that she is a celebrity putting her name on a product she could very well do the same. Another thing to take note of is coincidentally when Rihanna launched her products other makeup companies started to promote their darker shade ranges almost as a "look, we are diverse too" attempt.
“I like to challenge myself and do things that are more difficult… There needs to be something for a dark-skinned girl, there needs to be something for a really pale girl, there needs to be something for someone in between. There’s so many different shades– there’s red undertones, green undertones, blue undertones, pink undertones, there’s yellow. You want people to appreciate the product and not feel like it only looks good ‘on her.'” Rihanna made this statement when asked what the vision of her brand was. None of this is to say there aren't a handful of other brands with diverse shade ranges but Rihanna's new makeup line will definitely have many other makeup brands who don't, scurrying to catch up. Ultimately Rihanna has done an astonishing job promoting more diversity and inclusivity to the makeup world.
