In terms of a hit-or-miss show, this was a miss.

Variety

So the new NBC Show, "Maya & Marty," rolled out on television last Tuesday night. And let's say, I was not too impressed. I am easily humored and enjoy NBC's long running show, "Saturday Night Live." The past few years for SNL have been rather rough with almost a new cycle of writers/actors and a declining viewership. It may be because of a generation change, but nothing really compares to the days of John Belushi, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, or even Kristen Wiig. But, with a new variety show, the hopes were high with some experienced writers and with trying to bring back the old variety show. However, the end result: I won't be tuning in anymore. The following were skits provided in the show.

The Astronaut with Tom Hanks

I was excited to see Tom Hanks because he isn't too often seen anymore. It was funny because they were sort of referencing his movie, "Apollo 13." This sketch was too long out drawn with a lot of awkward feeling in it and almost felt over-produced. 6/10

Melania's Diamonds

My thoughts on this was it wasn't very funny. I'm not a huge fan of Trump as it is but, this might've been the worst sketch of the show. She ended up choking on the diamonds and then losing her accent. 3/10

Jiminey Glick with Larry David

I'm personally not a huge Larry David fan and have never heard of Jiminey Glick. But this sketch ran way too long. My parents fell asleep while watching this sketch. There wasn't too much substance to this anyway. 1/10.

Goodnight Moon with Miley Cyrus

I love the story Goodnight Moon, but this kind of killed it. They tried to put a modern spin on it, but it was very trashy. Plus, Miley needs to work on her acting skills because clearly her acting skills have vanished. 4/10

The War in Words

Surprisingly, this skit was actually enjoyable. It put a modern women-to-man communication set in The Civil War. It was funny because she would answer his letters, that would take weeks to arrive, by saying "It was good," or things of that nature. 8/10.

Little Big Shots with Jimmy Fallon

This show clearly was poking fun at Steve Harvey and all of his shows. I love Jimmy Fallon as anyone could tell, but this performance seemed very sporadic and immature. Like a few of the others, this sketch went very long and got old very quick. 2/10.

Music Performance by Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus dressed as a man in the beginning was not a surprise. The vocals were good. The weirdness of it however threw me off. Not a fan. 4/10.

Music Performance by "Shuffle Along"

I have never heard of the musical, "Shuffle Along." I was VERY impressed. It might've been because the cast is used to being on Broadway and performing live, but the dance skills were fabulous. The whole cast danced tap in sync for a long amount of time, which is quite challenging. "Shuffle Along" the practice paid off and your performance was exquisite. 10/10

So sorry NBC, try again another time. Or you could just leave it to the writers of SNL.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
