It (2017) is a great new film that centers around a group of ‘losers’ on a mission to enjoy their summer. Their plans soon change when Bill’s younger brother, Georgie, goes missing, adding onto the long list of deceased or missing children in the town of Derry, Maine. The group consists of Bill, Ben, Beverly, Richie, Eddie, Mike, and Stanley. Each character has relatable flaws, fears, and quirks.
It, otherwise known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, needs to feed on the children’s fears which would sometimes come from very real areas. The film manages to reveal the inner demons of the children, such as abusive parents, overprotective mothers, and high expectations. I loved the combination of real and fictional evils that the kids had to face. As the group learns of the evils in the town, they also realize that they will have to forfeit their carefree summer for the journey of a life time.
After seeing the trailer, I was expecting a horror film that would provide a lot of jump scares and nightmare inducing content but I got something much more. With a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 89%, the movie has stirred up a lot of excitement and for good reasons. I was pleasantly surprised by the hilarious one liners, charismatic cast and amazing cinematography. Strong characters with great development, a relatable town, terrifying monsters, and tons of quotable moments were provided. It is a mixture of a coming of age story and an exciting horror flick that still manages to scare.
I recommend that everyone watches this film, hopefully soon, too. I am sure this movie will be talked about for weeks and maybe even months to come. Even better, watch the movie with close friends! You will have quotes that are fit for every occasion and new actors to follow on their journey to stardom. If you are a fan of Stranger Things, a Netflix series that shares an actor, Finn Wolfhard, with the It film, you will most likely enjoy this movie. The fear is still present, only more intense and a rag tag team of kids from the eighties are there to fight the enemies at hand.
No matter how you think you will feel about this movie, I am almost positive that you will be surprised. It is a must see, for the culture! It will be all the buzz, the movie that leaves people asking, “Wait, you haven’t seen it??” I give this film a 9/10 stars rating. It is a scary and also comical film that everyone will love, especially you!
