To me, country music is where it's at. I love going to country concerts because the atmosphere is amazing, and people are just letting loose and having a good time listening to some great music.
On July 7th, I went to Fenway Park for Florida Georgia Line's Smooth Tour. Not only did they perform, but fellow country singer, Chris Lane, opened the concert followed by rapper, Nelly. Before FGL came on, 90's boy band, The Backstreet Boys (BSB) performed their hit songs.
Before I delve into the concert as a whole, I should mention that it was raining when my friends and I got into Boston. This was also my first concert at Fenway Park. However, the rain didn't stop my excitement for the concert.
So, on to Chris Lane, the first performer of the night. I only knew two songs: "Fix," and "For Her." Other than that, he was alright. I don't think he is that good of a live singer. His song, "For Her," there are high notes in the song that I don't think he could reach. He only sang four songs before leaving the stage.
Rapper Nelly was the next to perform and I knew of him when he was featured in FGL's hit song, "Cruise." Surprising, I knew a lot of his songs like, "Ride Wit Me," and "Just a Dream" just to name a few. I really liked Nelly, and his stage presence. I could tell he was having so much fun performing for the concert goers.
Now onto the third performer of the night and they were the Backstreet Boys. Let me tell you they still got it! They too were having so much fun. The boy band opened up with "Larger than Life."
Other songs they performed were: "I Want It That Way" and "As Long As You Love Me." They performed others but these were the songs that I knew. I would definitely go see them again; they were that good!
Before everyone knew it, FGL came on to party with us. FGL opened up my favorite song by them which was "Anything Goes." Fireworks went off, and it was the perfect song to start their set off with because it was a Friday night. The lyrics go: Anything goes on a Friday night/ get your party right, it's a Friday night.
As any concert goer knows, the performer(s) always engage with the crowd. Tyler Hubbard, who makes up one-half of the country duo, said that fours years ago they performed at the House of Blues right across the street from Fenway.
He later said that they toured the famous baseball park and imagined them playing at Fenway one day. Well, their dream came true.
They sang "Dig your Roots," "Holy," "Round Here," and "Sippin' On Fire." They sang "May We All" which is another one of my favorite songs by the duo.
FGL sang another new hit song which is "God, your Mama, and Me." The duo didn't sing this song themselves, The Backstreet Boys are featured in this song too and made another appearance on stage later on.
After the 90's boy band left the stage, the boys continued doing their thing until I realized that the most fun night was about to end.
On the radio, commercials kept advertising the the Smooth Tour and saying that Backstreet Boys would be performing. The BSB song "Everybody" was the song in the advertisements.
What strikes me as odd was the boys never sang that song until FGL mentioned their first concert they ever went to. Brian Kelley, the other half of the hit duo, said his first concert was the BSB.
Both Hubbard and Kelley started singing "Everybody" which signaled the BSB to come on stage to help them out with the song! Everybody was singing the song. The song FGL ended with was "Cruise" and Nelly came out to sing again.
After going to many concerts for the past seven years, I realized that this was hands down the best concert I have ever been too. The atmosphere at Fenway was an atmosphere where I never wanted the party to end.
If you ever have the chance to see FGL in concert, take that chance because they are amazing live. I would see them again the next time they're in town.
