11 Ways To Start Off Your Summer The Right Way

It's finally the time of year that everyone has been waiting for since the worst polar vortex in the Midwestern history. Summer is coming and school is finally ending; however, there are some things to remember when it comes to fully enjoy this upcoming summer vacation. So if you want to embrace the sun this summer and completely submerge yourself in this deserved vacation, here are all the things you need to remember in order to start things off right.

1. Give yourself a day for just "you" time.

One of the most important things you can do after a rough school year is to give yourself that day to connect with no one else but yourself. This is a day where you can sleep, do a face mask, catch up on Netflix, or whatever else you deem necessary to get back to being yourself.

2. Get yourself settled wherever you are

Whether you went back home for the summer, away on a study abroad trip, or just relaxing in your own apartment, get yourself in order. Make everything organized, tidy up, all in all just help yourself have a smooth and functioning area that you can relax in when deemed necessary.

3. Make yourself a budget right away

One of the hardest things to do is realize how much money you are spending, especially if you no longer have a school job. Plan out what you want to spend either in a journal or checking book that way you know what things you can and cannot do.

4. If budget allows, treat yourself to some new summer clothes

Nothing makes someone feel better than a fresh wardrobe. If your budget permits, treat yourself to a new outfit to kick off your summer with.

5. Decide what trips you want to go

With planning your budget, you can see from the very beginning what your summer is going to look like. As previously mentioned, this helps you think about what trip you want to go on or just fun events and activities you want to participate in.

6. Apply for summer jobs early

So maybe that budget was a little too tight, find what local businesses are hiring for summer work, because everyone will always be looking for seasonal workers.

7. Take care of your physical health

This is the most important thing you can do for yourself. School always takes a lot out of the person so make sure you are ready to enjoy this summer both physically and mentally.

8. Start packing early

If you don't want to worry about packing everything back up when it comes to going back to school, start packing slowly and early from the very beginning.

9. Spend as much time as you can outdoors

With our constantly changing weather patterns, enjoy the sun for as long as it allows you to. Just make sure to put on sunscreen first.

10. Try something new

The long warmth of summer is the perfect time to make fun and exciting memories, so make sure to leave the house every once in a while and embrace the outskirts of your comfort zone.

11. Take lots of pictures

With trying something new comes the exciting possibility of many new memories. Be sure to have a handy camera ready to capture those special moments for years to come.

Remembering these key things will ensure you a great vacation to enjoy this summer. Whether you are the type of person who plans on going on many traveling endeavors or someone who is comfortable with just relaxing by a crackling bonfire, make sure your summer is designed the way you want it to be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
