Recasting the Perfect "Mortal Kombat" Film Series (Part II)

Back in September, I wrote an article about a fan casting for a newer "Mortal Kombat" film (or even Netflix) series. In that, I touched on a lot of the major players, but I thought about some omissions and more minor characters that could still be included.

Shinnok (Ian McDiarmid)

In a modern series, McDiarmid would be used as the voice of Shinnok. If you've seen any "Star Wars" movie ever, you will get exactly what I mean. Any fights would obviously have a stunt double, as McDiarmid is 71.

Quan Chi (Vin Diesel)

Vin Diesel has not only the voice, but the body type to play Quan Chi. Given Vin Diesel's repertoire, fights featuring Quan Chi would be highly interesting, although his voice would need to be deepened a little bit.

Tanya (Zoe Saldana)

Tanya is another of the many Edenian characters within "Mortal Kombat." Known for her strength, Zoe Saldana is perfect for this role. Her ability to portray strong female characters earns her this spot on my list. Zoe Saldana also has the ability to play either hero or villain, which she has demonstrated in films such as "The Losers" and "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Cyrax (Chadwick Boseman)

Cyrax is an Earthrealmer who hails from Botswana. He joins the Lin Quei and eventually becomes part of the Cyber Initiative, an effort to turn all of the Lin Quei into cyborgs. Boseman has brought a great deal of energy to all of the roles he has played, especially playing Jackie Robinson and James Brown. He will also be acting in the up-and-coming "Captain America: Civil War" as Black Panther.

Sektor (Lee Byung-hun)

The other half of the initial participants of the Lin Kuei's Cyber Initiative, Sektor is actually the first to undergo the cyberization process out of his loyalty to the Lin Quei. Lee Byung-hun has been in many films, including "G.I. Joe," playing Storm Shadow.

Jade (Kate Beckinsale)

Edenian and childhood best friend of Kitana. I have said "film" a lot in these articles, but to capture all of the nuances of the characters, a Netflix based series would likely be better. There is a lot of history that can be covered just with Jade, Kitana, and all of Edenia. Kate Beckinsale has brought action in a big way in the "Underworld" films. She could continue to kick the snot out of the forces of evil here.

RECAST

Scorpion (Aaron Kwok)

Admittedly, I had not found this actor when looking up for my first article. The trend of films has been to make white guys into better Asians than Asians, and that has annoyed me to no end. At 50, he is still in great enough physical shape to bring life to Hanzo Hasashi.

OTHER

Nightwolf (Rick Mora)- It would be a little hard but not impossible to include Nightwolf in a new project. You would have to deviate from the character significantly to fit in with modern times. Nightwolf in the original game was poorly received, as he was the traditional Native American stereotype. I'm all for Nightwolf being in a new project, as I am a fan of the character, but the appearance would have to change.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
