Many brush off animated television series, categorizing them as children's show. While this can be true for some, this is not the case with Over the Garden Wall. Written by Patrick McHale, this Cartoon Network miniseries brings forth a darker, mysterious story through the medium cartoon. OTGW is not your typical CN show, but that is the beauty of it. This "5-night mystery adventure" revolves around brothers Wirt and Greg who find themselves lost in a ominous forest. As they traverse through this unknown land, they meet interesting people and creatures while somehow becoming more lost despite their attempts of returning home. If this doesn't seem like enough reason to watch the show, here are just a few more reasons why you should be:

1. The art and animation is to die for.

It is simple yet detailed. The details of the backgrounds contrast with that of the simplicity of the characters. It may seem like a weird idea, but it's phenomenal. Even if it was weird, it would fit perfectly with the entire feel of OTGW.

2. The main characters/brother duo: Wirt & Greg

Wirt and Greg are the perfect duo. Wirt is the older one of the two and the perfect embodiment of your socially awkward teenager brother. He's indecisive and kind of a party pooper when it comes to adventure. Plus, he like any older brother does, blames Greg for getting them lost. Greg, on the other hand, is this cute little ray of sunshine. Bringing a boyish charm and comedic relief in this serious-toned miniseries, you are bound to love him the moment he first appears on screen. Despite their differences, you're probably going to relate to both as they try to find their way back home.

3. The soundtrack is amazing.

While this is a more serious-styled cartoon, it almost runs the line of a musical as almost every episode has the characters singing a song. The soundtrack brings both the feel good and ominous tunes in a pre-20th century style. On the DVD, there is even an option to watch the series with just the music and if you get the chance, take it. It's a really good way to get a feel of how much the music fits the series.

4. The cast is top-notch.

This show features some great actors such as Elijah Wood, Christopher Lloyd, and Tim Curry. The A-game was brought to this show, voice actor-wise, despite this series containing a smaller character cast.

5. It's short enough to binge watch all the episodes and not feel bad about it.

As this is a miniseries, the show is only 10 episodes, each episode at about 11 minutes. That's less than two hours. It's almost as long as your typical movie. Perfect for those of you who want something new, but don't have the time to commit to something as long as a regular television series. It's the beauty of a miniseries.

(Side note: If you watch this series, you may notice there are certain gaps in the episodes were Greg and Wirt mysteriously are somewhere new- this meaning there are transitions missing. Not to fret, these little gaps won't make it confusing to understand the series at all. You'll be fine, I promise! However, if you are curious as to what happens in those little unmentioned areas, there is actually a four part comic series that goes over those gaps. They are about $3 a pop, totaling you at $12 for all four. While this may be more than the series costs, $3 is pretty good for a comic book. Js.)

6. It's perfect for Halloween or anytime really.

I've watched this show so many times, I've lost count. The mysterious, chilly vibes this show radiates is perfect for Halloween, especially if you're one of those people like me who doesn't particular bode well with horror flicks. It may also tie in... But I'll not say anymore. You'll just have to go check it out!

This series is available: in-stores (Walmart, Best Buy) and on iTunes for about $10 as well as online on Hulu (with a subscription- about $8 - $11, depending on the package you buy).

However, the first episode to the series is available on YouTube, so you can check it out and get a feel for it. The original pilot is also available on YouTube, if you'd like to see what the series was planned to be like at first/what it possibly could have been.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
