6 Reasons Why All USF Students Love President Judy Genshaft
USF Facebook Page

Every University of South Florida student knows who Judy Genshaft is. If you don't then you are about to... Judy Genshaft is the president here at USF and if you don't already have an obsession with her.... well you will now. Most of our students know and love President Genshaft. There are multiple reasons why she is so loved and considered to be awesome here at USF.

She Is Approachable.

Unlike most college presidents Judy Genshaft is approachable. It isn't just her persona or the way she loves USF but it is also the events she has. At the beginning of every semester there is an event called pastries with the president. Which was exactly as it sounds you go to the MSC or Student Government Offices and hang out with President Genshaft and other students eating free pastries. Chilling with the president and getting free food?!? Man is that awesome or what?

She Loves USF.

For most presidents it is just a job. They come to the campus smile nice at the students and continue on into their office to do their work. But President Genshaft makes it a point to come to events that go on, on campus. She attends different events like football games, homecoming events, she even will attend the beginning of tours and will talk to the parents before they head out with their G3 to tour our amazing campus.

She Loves Our Chants.

If you have every attended a football game at Raymond James Stadium and President Judy Genshaft appears the entire student section will erupt into multiple cheers. Some are chanting "JUDY! JUDY! JUDY!" while some chant "LET'S GO JUDY, LETS GO" and there is the "JUDY GENSHAFT (**clap, clap**)" chant that always seems to over power the other two. Now most people would just acknowledge the chants with a wave or a smile, but not Judy. She makes sure it is known that she is thankful for our chants. Sometimes she will dance, wave, or use the bulls symbol all while having the biggest smile on her face.

She Gives Back.

Many presidents support their schools and try to find awesome fundees for scholarships. But Judy is different. In 2011 Judy Genshaft and her husband, Steven Greenbaum established a scholarship for USF students who wish to study abroad. Judy and her husband donated a total of 1 million dollars over a 5 year span to fund this scholarship that is available now to USF students. This donation created the Genshaft/Greenbaum Passport Scholars Fund, it pays for expenses related to study abroad.

She Gets Stuff Done.

Unlike many presidents that our nation (in college and out) has seen, President Judy Genshaft "Gets things done." Within her 15 years of being president here at USF she has implicated multiple amazing things like donations for research at USF, she has "increased the amount of out-of-state and international students (like she said she wanted to) "by 20 percent, and she has helped with the steady increase of the USF Student Alumni Association membership.

She Goes Along With The Selfie "Craze".

Most students who have been here at USF for a year know that it is mandatory to take a selfie with President Genshaft before you graduate. For you freshmen who are reading this thinking "How am I going to do that?", don't worry there will be plenty of opportunities. Many times throughout your four years here there will actually be time set aside where you can go get a selfie with President Genshaft and Rocky. Although if you happen to always be busy during those opportunities then you can always ask her when you see her around campus... Just make sure she isn't in the middle of a conversation with someone that looks to be very important, remember you manners because she still is our President.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
