Getting back into reading after weeks of a reading slump

Lately, due to school, I've been in a reading slump. I started Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer two weeks ago, but have struggled to get past the first half of the book. It's written incredibly well and the story itself is interesting - but I've failed in devoting my time to reading it. The book has not captivated me completely because of my school work and other situations that take me away from indulging myself in reading. To get myself out of this slump, I've made a list that should help me (or you) get out of that daunting reading break.

1. Take a break from the book that has put you into the slump:

If it isn't getting your attention, try picking a different book that might get you back into reading.

2. Pick an entirely different genre:

Try reading a different type of book than you're used to. It will most likely be more entertaining and clear your head to focus in on the story (and only the story).

3. Take book recommendations from friends:

Asking a friend for a book recommendation might be most helpful. It's fun to learn about how passionate your friends can be about a certain book, which might encourage you to read it. (And if they're a really good friend, they'll let you borrow a copy if they have one.)

4. Reread your favorite book:

If life is too busy, reread your favorite book! This way you don't have to focus too much on what's going on, and it could be more of a comfort-read. It doesn't necessarily have to be your favorite, either. Could be an easy-read, or try more books by your favorite author.

5. Read a short story:

Novella's are the perfect way to get back into your regular reading habits. They're short and compelling, and will make you want to read more. Reading something light is less intimidating and doesn't take as much time.

6. Visit your local bookstore or Barnes and Noble (aka the Promised land):

Searching for new books to read is the best - just don't spend too much money. Or do. Books are worth it.

7. Let the break happen:

Because life is often too hectic.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
