Just as there are days when I feel capable of anything and everything under the sun, there are those days when I just don’t give a flippin’ heck. When those days come a-knockin', I need to dig way, way down to find what positivity may or may not be hiding from my introspective sight.

If you haven’t noticed by now, that doesn’t always work. Sometimes, digging deep and looking inward can be as useful as reading a book in a dark room, under the covers, and while wearing a blindfold. Those days are just plain garbage.

In pursuit of “keeping calm” and “carrying on” when those miserable days strike, I rely on words and insights of the words of others. Specifically, I rely upon others’ quotes to help give me inspiration. Below you’ll find a list of my most favorite quotes, small nuggets of wisdom that help set me right.

1. "Start every day off with a smile and get it over with.' ~ W.C.Fields

2. “This above all: to thine own self be true.” ~ Hamlet

3. "People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road, doesn't mean they've gotten lost." ~Dalai Lama

4. “People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” ~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

5. "Shoot for the Moon; Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." ~ Les Brown

6. "I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life's realities." ~ Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel

7. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes, courage is that weak voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow'" ~ Mary Anne Radmacher

8. “If not us, who? If not now, when?” ~ John F. Kennedy

9. "Today you are you. That is truer than true. There is nobody alive that is youer than you." ~ Happy Birthday to You!

10. "The pen that writes your life story must be held in your own hand." ~ Irene C. Kassoria

11. "A friend who is far away is sometimes much nearer than one who is at hand. Is not the mountain far more awe-inspiring and more clearly visible to one passing through the valley than to those who inhabit the mountain? " ~ Khalil Gibran

12. “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” ~ Henry Ford

13. "When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful." ~ Malala Yousafzai

14. "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." ~ Robin Williams

15. "My goal is not to have thousands of friends at my funeral, but enough good ones to carry my casket." ~ John "Andy" Myers (me, until proven otherwise)

I'm always writing down quotes, but not all make the cut today. Several, I wager, are some of your favorite quotes, too. You've probably heard a number of these.

Likely you've heard some awesome quotes that I haven't. Share your favorites and maybe we'll all learn a new one we haven't before had the pleasure of reading.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
