Creativity takes courage.

Anyone who is majoring in fine arts, theater, studio or digital media understands the chaos they have to go through. This major requires patience and commitment (since the studio hours are over two hours long and theatrical performances require hard work), but it allows students to express their creativity. Since this is a major that will cause stress and headaches on different occasions, these particular students will need some motivation. Here are 10 quotes that only art majors will understand.

1. "The chief enemy of creativity is 'good' sense" — Pablo Picasso

Creativity requires time and work. While coming up with new and interesting ideas for plays, drawings or projects is challenging, art will be considered brilliant and remembered if the artist puts their wisdom, heart, and soul into their work.

2. "Every artist was first an amateur" — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Not all artists start off amazing. They will only become great by taking the time to learn new skills, techniques, and styles. Artists that can develop the patience and willingness to keep trying no matter what will become successful in their careers.

3. "Creativity takes courage" — Henri Matisse

Making the decision to create a big sculpture, installation or production can be scary and make any artist nervous. These are choices that will actually help artists to improve their skills and result in making smarter decisions in life. Do not be afraid to try something different and unique. If you put in effort and have a positive attitude, viewers will feel the same way.

4. "You don't take a photograph, you make it" — Ansel Adams

For those who are photographers, the picture itself is created by the photographer and is captured from their perspective. Every artist and photographer sees the world differently, but it is up to them how they want to display these experiences.

5. "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time" —Thomas Merton

One of the strange things about creating artwork is that we need to remember to maintain control of the work instead of allowing it to control us. The creativity will cause artists to lose their minds while discovering something in the process.

6. "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents" — Bob Ross

It is impossible to make a mistake in artwork. The difference between an art major and other majors is there are no right or wrong answers. Artists and designers create work based on feelings and they just want to show these emotions to others.

7. "A picture is a poem without words" — Horace

Just like the saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Paintings tell stories and display love, sorrow, and anger without having to use words. If you are a digital artist you can produce a thousand lies with software and image manipulation like Photoshop. The stories told also allows observers to interpret the work the way that they see it.

8. "The principles of true art is not to portray, but to evoke" — Jerzy Kosinski

Those who create an artwork or performance are doing it to get a reaction out of the audience. Art is not just made to display life through someone else's perspective. However, if any artist or actor manages to get others to express emotion then they will know their work was successful.

9. "Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do" — Edgar Degas

When an artist is creating work and he or she is not experienced, then it is simple to make great paintings because they are not overthinking what to do. However, after months or years of learning to paint, it becomes a challenge to make a big or complicated painting if artists start by planning it out and have an idea of what they want to create first.

10. "I have no fear of making changes, destroying the image, etc. because the painting has a life of its own". — Jackson Pollock

The art people create is incredible because sometimes the artwork goes beyond their control. Even if artists do anything to alter a painting or make a change to anything they create, this is not a problem since artists can get lost in the work.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
