What more can you do with a pumpkin?

Have you ever realized just how much you can do with a pumpkin? I have yet to see one actually turn into a carriage for Cinderella at the ball, but still, there are so many things it can be used for! These next two months are prime pumpkin time so read closely to figure out what you can do with your pumpkins.

1. Carve it!

The tradition pumpkin carving. Halloween's around the corner and what's some spooky decorations without so carved pumpkins? Growing up my family always did the traditional spooky faces for our pumpkins, but today there are all kinds of options to carve your pumpkin into. Make your pumpkins gloomy, jolly or freaky! Stencils have even become popular to help trace a cool picture into your pumpkins such as a black cat or a ghost! No matter what you carve, pumpkin carving is a Halloween tradition you should not forget.

2. Don't like the gunk inside? You can still decorate it!

Carving isn't necessarily the option for everyone because trust me it's messy. Now if this is you, that's fine because you can be just as creative with some paint and glitter. Pumpkins are the perfect canvas for you to craft your heart out. So, drop the carving knife and grab a paintbrush!

3. Or don't craft at all.

If you just aren't crafty at all, once again don't worry. There are these mini pumpkins that are created to throw around your home and decorate it up. The three big kinds of mini pumpkins are Jack Be Little's, Baby Boos and a blend of both! Jack Be Little's are the most traditional looking considering their orange color, but Baby Boos are just as fun because they're different and white! If you just cannot decide to go for the blend or get all three! They are the perfect small way to jazz up any decorations.

4. Get rowdy.

Now pumpkins are not just for decorations, but also perfect for activities. Two of my favorites include pumpkin bowling and musical pumpkin pass. Pumpkin bowling takes a turn on bowling by using a pumpkin instead of a bowling ball! It's a little tricky because it's not perfectly round, but keep your eye out for the roundest and first place here you come! Secondly, the musical pumpkin pass is just as exciting as the one we all know "Hot Potato", except a little trickier considering how big pumpkins are!

5. Eat up!

The amount of food items we have figured out how to make with pumpkins is incredible. We all know pumpkin spice is the talk of the week when it comes back on the menu at coffee shops. Pumpkin pies, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin bread, muffins, cakes, smoothies, creamer, ice cream, Werther's soft caramels, Oreos and even pumpkin cheerios!! The list goes on forever so go to the store walk through the aisles of fall food and stack up!

The fall time is the time for you to splurge, treat yourself, and if you love pumpkins as much as me – don't you dare feel bad about it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
