Why I Am Proud Of My Squirrel Patronus

Needless to say, I had to learn to love you.

Being an avid Potterhead, the Hogwarts House quiz as well as the wand quiz were completely addictive. I made, and low-key still make, all of family and friends take the quizzes. After the Pottermore Patronus quiz came out in 2015, I knew I had to take it! However; I was highly disappointed with my results. After dreaming of my spirit animal being some powerful wolf or snow leopard, I got stuck with a gray squirrel.

For those who do not know, a patronus is a term from the Harry Potter series. This is the result of performing a spell called Expecto Patronum, which is used to protect an individual from a dementor. Dementors are dark, ghost-like creatures that basically suck up all of your happiness until you die. To produce this charm, one must think of their happiest memory. The patronus, in turn, can be compared to your spirit animal.

Therefore, getting a gray squirrel was an up-most disappointment to me. I knew I had to do some digging to figure out what this animal that was supposed to represent myself actually meant. Squirrels represent many things including: planning, play, energy, organization, preparation, slight obsession, and resourcefulness. All of which I identify with as characteristics of myself. The squirrel is also a symbol for foresight, which I believe is cool. Squirrels also have a general spastic nature that can be noticed by simply watching them move. I can not count how many times I have been called a spaz by my friends due to my abundance of energy.

There is also the added factor of the multitude of squirrels rooming around Athens, the city in which Ohio University is located. It is difficult if not nearly impossible to go for a stroll around campus without running into a gray squirrel. These squirrels are not afraid to be around people and bring such an adorable, fun and furry atmosphere to campus that is truly hard not to love.

For a patronus that is labeled "one of the lamest Patronuses from the Harry Potter quiz", I have definitely grown quite fond of it. Even though I started out completely against it, I have learned not only to accept this cute, little creature as my patrons and therefore; spirit animal. but also have fallen for this animal as a whole.

Although most of this probably seems childish that I would take an online quiz so seriously, my spirit animal is something that I struggled with finding for a very long time. Once I was able to see the similarities between myself and this animal, I felt as though I learned a little bit more about myself as a person. Or perhaps I should simply stop spending my free time taking online quizzes.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
