With a magnitude of college rapists being exposed, educating potential victims and clearly outlying when sex is not permissible are our best options in place to prevent it.

These ten steps will help every college kid know how to stay safe and smart when venturing to that LIT!! House party, or the hottest club near campus. We want you to be safe, so here is how.

1. When going out, travel in groups of based upon people you trust

Traveling in groups makes lowers the chance of rape because each person is looking out for one another.

2. Have a signal among friends

People are crazy! Always have a plan and a signal for when someone is making you feel uncomfortable. The sooner you let your friend know the better!

3. Don't leave your cup unattended and cover as you mingle

Even the nice people slip into your drink, so your best option is don’t give them the opportunity and hold your solo cup close.


4. Carry keys

Because weapons are not allowed at clubs or on campus, your keys are the next best thing. Place on key in between each knuckle and if someone try to hurt you, go for the eyes, the groin, somewhere.

5. Do not leave with someone you don’t know

Sometimes we leave with a strange person and although that is your choice beware of living with someone. The safest bet is to go home alone.


6. Always have a way home

Simple. Make sure your ride is secured for the evening before going out and while out.

7. If walking home alone, let a friend or roommate know


8. Have SafeTrek downloaded on phone, or keep 911 on speed dial when walking alone

SafeTrek is an app that send the police your gps coordinates if you don’t enter a specific code and is very useful. It 3.99 and is helpful when you are traveling in a different counties and states. If you don’t want to pay 911 works almost as effectively.

9. Speak up and speak out

You see something suspicious, don’t hesitate someone of authority (campus safety, bouncer, police)


10. Stay aware of your surroundings

If you are aware of your surroundings and people near you, it is easier to track down someone who attacked you or someone else. STAY VIGILANT!
