The Problem With Today's Generation

Bloom where you are planted.

It is easy to make excuses. It has become second nature for us to blame others, the world or anything else because we are either unwilling to try or concerned about potential failure.

I am unable to _____ because... It's too late for me to pursue this... I'm too busy... I'm not qualified... It's not the right time... It's too difficult... I'm not used to it... I won't succeed... I'm not good enough... Others don't believe in me...

The only way to know is to try.

You can't say that you will fail or that whatever it may be, is not for you. You will not know unless you try. You never know what you could do or how much you may achieve without at least attempting.

If one thing doesn't work, then pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again or try something new.

You are not meant to be good at everything, no one is. One defeat does not constitute you being a complete failure. Get yourself back up and try again.

Your situation and current status do not define YOU.

Economic and Social status do not define your ability or destiny. You can be or do anything, it might look a little different than it would for others, but achieving your goals is up to you.

This generation loves to blame anyone or anything: besides themselves.

Stop blaming others. You make your own choices, you can do or not do whatever you please. It is not anyone else's fault, unless they directly and intently do something to hurt or damage your chances. It's common to hear excuses and blame others, but when someone does not own up to their own faults but rather blame others, they do not deserve sympathy.

A phrase that I have recently been hearing is, "Bloom where you are planted." Which has caused me to think a good amount about the multitude of situations this could apply to. Take what life throws at you, take any opportunities that arise and allow your situation to give you the ability to grow and excel. Just as a flower, the seeds are deposited naturally where they are meant to be, and they bloom in their own time. Don't allow where you are "planted" to define your ability to succeed or your future. Take the highs and the lows, and don't complain. Give your strengths and weaknesses the ability to show, so you can accomplish your goals in a transparent way. You weren't born to get it all right, but you were born with the ability to live the life you were meant to. Try your hardest, and own up to your short-comings. In the end, if you don't succeed, then you only can blame yourself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
