It's been 20 years since J.K. Rowling blessed us with the story and adventures of Harry Potter. In those 20 years, we have experienced seven books, eight movies, a website created so that we can finally see which house we truly belong to, hundreds of fanfictions, a handful of additional books, thousands of memes, an archive of Tumblr conversations, a spin-off, and stage production of what happened next in the life of the Boy Who Lived.
Despite all of these wonderful things, there's one thing that Potterheads are still asking for: a Marauder prequel. I've been dreaming of a prequel since grade school when I ultimately fell in love with my favorite character— Remus Lupin. To an ultimate "Harry Potter" nerd like me, nothing sounded more exciting than to know what their life was like at Hogwarts before everything started to go downhill.
Here are a few reasons why J.K. Rowling needs to write a backstory for Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs:
1. We need more midnight releases.
Midnight book releases and movie releases were so popular when it came to the "Harry Potter" fandom. I was never allowed to go, so I had to live vicariously through YouTubers who vlogged the whole thing. A new book/movie would give us another reason to dress up.
2. We need to see all of the mischief.
Those boys didn't put "mischief managed" on the Marauder's Map for nothing. We want to see every little prank and adventure that went down on the castle grounds.
3. We need more of Lily Evans.
I don't know about you, but I want to know more about Lily before she got with James. Lily is an amazing character that we didn't get the time to know.
4. We need to understand why Snape was so filled with hate.
As much as I hate to admit it, James was awful to Snape. And as much as I didn't want to like Snape, I couldn't help but feel for him. It would be hard to see our beloved Marauders bullying him, but it would help us to feel for Snape a little more.
5. We need to see what changed Lily's mind about James.
What was the turning point for Lily? How did she change her mind from hating someone to loving someone? We need answers.
6. We need to see Sirius in all of his glory.
We all know young Sirius was arrogant and full of himself, but we wouldn't want him any other way.
7. We need another reason for "Harry Potter" Weekends on Freeform.
Harry Potter Weekend should be every weekend.
8. We need to see how it all began.
How did these boys find a friend in each other?
