WW3: I know the memes are overwhelming, but there is a larger conversation to be had about the current situation than the draft memes.
Although no one is asking: my favorite meme is the one of Trump walking up to the podium with the nba draft music playing in the back.
Memes aside, this problem requires careful analysis. Every action made, every decision, affects the mentality of every american.
What concerns me the most is the anti-immigrant sentiment that was documented post 9/11. Of course this time we are the aggressor, and I don't have the policy knowledge to comment on the merit of the decision, undoubtedly the uneasiness created by the situation is very problematic.
I believe it is important to understand the possible public backlash and try to preemptively combat it. Specifically the potential racism. The threat of looming war even if it is logistically improbable seems to be present in the minds of people. This creates nationalism, the best comparison is 9/11. Although that was the extreme, the tragedy fostered years of nationalism. The fear that it created should not be replicated. The best way is to be conscious of how we can combat the possible racial tension. But why is this important? People from the Middle East living here have nothing to do with the conflict and projecting national conflict on a group of people is unbecoming of a nation made of diverse people.
The potential racism is important to combat but the greater reason is because often a racially charged population can influence possibly overly aggressive policy. Personally in the current political scheme having an overly active military will hurt us more than help. Change is often difficult but we are fortunate enough to live in a digital age, I hope my concerns reach people that care enough to make a difference.
