Our mindset plays a crucial role in everything we do. Our mindset determines how we face challenges, how we interact with others, and how we go about our daily routine. With a negative mindset, basic challenges can spark feelings of anxiety and stress. A negative mindset hinders growth and limits your ability to take advantage of new opportunities. By contrast, a positive mindset can propel you forward and help you to reach the goals you set for yourself.

If you are constantly focusing on the negative aspects of situations, it is probably time that you take steps to improve your mindset. Changing your mindset takes a significant amount of time and effort. The most challenging part about changing your mindset is recognizing your daily thought patterns and finding exactly what you need to change. Many of us go about our daily routine without recognizing how our mindset is limiting us.

I think that a positive mindset begins first with the people you surround yourself with. If you spend your time surrounded by people who are negative and focus on the bad aspects of life, you will undoubtedly follow a similar path of thinking. Your external environment plays a crucial role in determining your mindset. If you surround yourself with uplifting, motivated people, your mindset will surely be more positive.

The second step to changing your mindset is to challenge and recognize your thoughts. We spend a large amount of time analyzing situations and people. In order to understand your thought patterns, you must stop and acknowledge your immediate response to situations and challenges. If you find that your first thought is negative, you likely have a negative mindset.

The third way to change your mindset is to consume positive media. This includes the materials you read and the social media websites you interact with on a daily basis. It is important to consume media that is beneficial to you, rather than negative, harmful media. If you find yourself trapped in a mindset of comparison due to social media, you may consider taking a step back from social media content. We interact with social media on a regular basis. Therefore, it is crucial that we are consuming positive content.

In my opinion, a positive mindset is largely determined by how you spend your mornings. I find that allowing myself plenty of time in the morning to relax and plan my day helps me to maintain a positive mindset throughout the course of my day. If you are constantly spending your mornings in a rush, your day will likely be filled with anxiety and negativity. Allow yourself plenty of time in the morning to build a plan for your day and start your day off in a calm manner rather than an anxious one.

Another important aspect of cultivating a positive mindset is to keep track of your achievements. These accomplishments can be big or small. Once you begin focusing your attention on the things you are grateful for and the goals you have reached, your mindset will become more positive. Our mindset determines countless things in life from overcoming challenges to building relationships. By taking steps to establish a positive mindset, you will begin to see huge improvements in your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
