I have lived in Georgia for only a few years since I had moved. I never thought that time would pass by so fast that soon I am off to college. My high school years flashed by like a blink of an eye. This piece is dedicated to Georgia, the home that taught me to love myself for who I am and gave me amazing friends in my journey. I never thought these blackberry moments would ever happen in my life, but, thanks to you, they did.
Riding down I-75 into an unknown world
Somewhere far from my sun-kissed home
Through the 13-hour long drive
Sleeping to the beats of "All Izz Well"
To my new Georgia home
I enter this new school
embellished in red, white, black raiders
Unrecognizable faces with amazingly familiar smiles
Getting to know some lifelong friends
for the next few years
In my new Georgia home
Not long after I leave these faces
I go to a place where they sweat gold and bleed blue
Everyone is just an unrecognizable as before
But I am not afraid like was before
Since all those smiles shine through the dark corridors
At my new Georgia home
By now, I guess you know the drill
I hopscotched to a new zone colored in white and navy blue
A new motto, a new belief
Still learning new people and their connectors to my old friends
Memories build on into strong friendships
In my new Georgia home.
Finally, I get to stay put where I want to be
I look back on my years
Not ever feeling like a second has passed by
Since that wobbly early teen
entered her peachy home
Her old Georgia home
She looks onto the horizon
at the tippy top of her Dane stadium
She laughs, thinking of the old sayin'
There is no home like the one you got because that home belongs to you
