11 Songs That Are Currently Getting Me Through Life: Part 2
John Bhatti

Music is something we all love. It can make us happy and make us feel great. It can help us focus, which is something that it helps me to do. My playlist this week is getting me through the last week of school and crazy moments in my life. I am looking forward to winter break, the holidays, and resting during my time off. Music is my companion during all this craziness and during these unique mix of emotions.

1. Greenlight by Pitbull featuring Flo Rida and Lunchmoney Lewis

I love this song because it has this really cool beat and the lyrics are really relatable to how so many of college kids are feeling right now, including myself. We want to be done with school and chill out and like the song says "so give me the green light, 'Cause i'm ready to go" we're all definitely in that mindset--we're working hard and want to be done with school and enjoy our break.

2. El Taxi Pitbull featuring Lil Jon and Osmani Garcia (Spanglish version)

This is one of my favorite songs because I love the fusion of sounds, the mix of Latin music, Hip Hop, and Pop. I love the fun lyrics! Pitbull always knows how to make you feel really happy and like you want to dance. I love the reference to Sofia Vergara, and I love how much fun the song is overall.

3. My House by Flo Rida

I love this song because it instantly takes me to a great place and my mood improves. The song is fun and I love how popular it's been over this last year. It has literally been used everywhere and that's great because it's an awesome song. The beat is great the lyrics are amazing as well.

4. Tender Green Life by Dumblonde

This song is one of my favorites because it really has beautiful lyrics. The lyrics really spoke to me because they talk about finding joy, peace, and satisfaction in your life--something I long battled to find in my own life. The lyrics that I really identified with are "Lost in the chase, Tender Green Life" because I felt like for the last two years of my life, I have been "lost in the chase," trying to find myself and find peace and joy in my life. And I remember learning this years ago that in literature, the color green symbolizes happiness, joy, and fullness. I feel like the lyrics are beautiful and really deep, and I love the beat is very much a light upbeat sound and something you can jam to as well.

5. You Got Me by Dumblonde

I love this song because it remind me of 90's dance music. I love the beat and echoing effect that Dumblonde's voices do in the song. I love the lyrics because they are saying to just do your own thing and don't worry about what others say and think about you. It encourages you to be happy in your own life. The lyrics that I love the most are these "they stay up thinking about us, all that talk makes us stronger" because this is empowering and it inspires me to do my own thing and not worry about other people think or say about me.

6. Sugar by Maroon 5

I love this song because to me, it screams vacation, joy, and happiness. I feel like my head is at school and doing schoolwork, but my heart and soul are on vacation and having fun. The beat is so light and uplifting, the lyrics are joyful and happy, and the song has a Disco-vibe that I am obsessed with.

7. The Life by Fifth Harmony

I love this because it's relaxing and also the lyrics make you feel great. It's a wonderful song to cap of the semester, because in the song they talk about working hard and then enjoying life--which is something we all definitely need after this week of finals.

8. Sit Still, Look Pretty by Daya

I love this song because of how it can be relatable to everyone. We all want to work hard and prove we're not just one thing. The song says "but this gal right here is gonna rule the world, Yeah that is where is I'm gonna be because I wanna be, No, I don't wanna sit still look pretty." I love this because of the female-empowerment message, as well as the general empowerment message. I feel like the lyrics are something we all can relate to because it's so important to have goals, dreams, drive to work hard, and be what you want in life.

9. King Boy by Erin Bowman

This song is so catchy and upbeat! It starts off with that cool guitar-sound, but then you get a dance feel to it mixed with some R&B. I love Erin Bowman's voice because it's so sassy and she has her own swag when she sings. Her voice always reminds of a mix between Katy Perry and Demi Lovato. I have been a fan of her since high school, and whenever I hear her music I always feel so great.

10. Break Through the Silence by Martin Garrix

The lyrics for this one are beautiful, and the beat is fun to move to. The song talks about expressing yourself and enjoying life, which is an attitude I work hard to embrace. The song is fun and has a great message too.

11. Bounce by Calvin Harris featuring Kelis

This song always has been one of my favorites! Whenever Calvin Harris makes a song, not only does it make me feel like I want to dance, but the lyrics also make me feel a mix of many different emotions. Kelis sounds really great, and this song talks all about letting go and just enjoying where you are in life. To me, that's the most important message of all: be happy and enjoy your life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
