Play and certain toys can influence an individual's career later in life. Having your kids play with Legos will probably lead them to become engineers later in life. Having your kids play with Barbie dolls and toy kitchen sets might lead them to become stay-at-home mothers or cooks when later in life. Having your son only play with Legos and having your daughter only play with Barbie dolls might lead them to think that there inequal career opportunities for men and women later in their lives.
As a child, I played with dolls, stuffed animals, tea sets, and dollhouses. I was also very into music, drawing, and make-believe. I think to play with dolls, stuffed animals, tea sets, and dollhouses made me a caring and sympathetic person. This in turn I believe had a part in helping me to decide to become a counselor.
I think the music and drawing part made me more of an artistic person, probably causing me to decide to major in the Bachelor of Arts instead of the Bachelor of Science, as well as for deciding a Master of Arts over a Master of Science. I think playing music games and musical instruments, and drawing helped me to be more of a soft, caring, and thoughtful person too, also leading me to wanting to become a counselor.
I also loved playing Oregon Trail the computer game. It really challenged me and taught me to have survival skills and taught me how to take care of people. I also learned about history through this game, and that's why I am still interested in history to this day.
I think it is really important for children nowadays to play outside and to play with their toys; rather than watching tv for endless hours and playing violent video games.
