Native Americans relied on the earth to suffice their needs. Modernly, herbs are used to season dishes but, centuries ago, their purpose was deeper than taste. Many herbs have healing properties that work nearly as well as common pharmaceuticals. Here are three of my favorite herbs and their uses.
1. Rosemary
When ingested, rosemary can aid in the treatment of upset stomach and `digestive disorders. used topically, it can treat headaches, muscle and arthritis-related pain, it can also help improve circulation.
2. Thyme
Thyme contains thymol which is an active component of many antiseptic wipes and mouthwashes, It can also regulate blood pressure. It works as a good insect repellent as well.
3. Calendula
Calendula can be used as a powerful anti-inflammatory and antiviral. Its oil can be used as ear drops to treat ear infections. The oil can also treat skin ulcers and a variety of lesions.
For centuries these three herbs cured early versions of our common ailments. I rely on herbs rather than pharmaceuticals due to the minimal side effects and extreme healing properties of these and many other herbs.
