I want to start off by saying that I love this movie. I have watched this movie too many times to count, and I will probably watch it many more times in the future. It’s one of those movies that I can just watch over and over again. That being said, there are some things that make me scratch my head.
1. The camp is a little unorganized at the beginning of the movie.
Where they announce where everyone is living through a megaphone, and how they throw everyone’s bags in a huge pile. I don’t know if this is just Camp Walden, or other camps do this too. Instead, everyone should keep track of their own luggage, and get their camp assignments before they come. Or if they’re going to put the luggage in piles, they should put them in.
Plus, who has an isolated cabin for misbehaved campers on the edge of the camp? Then, when Hallie and Annie get in trouble (even though Annie shouldn't have gotten in trouble for Hallie and her friend's prank), all the campers have to come with them when they move their stuff to the cabin. Why? What's the point of bringing all the campers with them? To warn them that this could be them?
2. How could Annie and her friends put Hallie and her roommate's stuff on the top of the roof? And without anyone noticing?
In broad daylight too. There is no way that three eleven-year-olds that size could pull off a prank like that. In real life, they would have been caught right away and gotten in serious trouble. That begs another question, where are all the counselors?
You only see them in the beginning scene when they greet the campers, help organize the bags into piles, and guide the campers to their cabins. Another thing, Annie (along with Hallie) was the one to get in trouble after the women in charge get caught up in Hallie and her friends’ prank even though Annie had nothing to do with it.
3. How did they not realize they were twins when they met?
I mean, come on. If they were fraternal, I would understand, but they’re identical! They didn’t think they were related at first until they found out that that they like Oreos and peanut butter along with having the same birthday. They were both surprised at the fact that they were born on the same day.
4. The custody arrangement.
Nick and Elizabeth get a divorce, and they think it’s the best to tear the twins apart by each getting one. Then, they decide not to tell Hallie and Annie that they have a twin and make no efforts to get together for the kids’ sakes. All doing this because they never want to see each other again is wrong. After they meet, that’s when they decide that they can get together throughout the year for the kids.
5. How did the parents not know that they had the wrong child after Hallie and Annie switched?
Everyone else figured it out before their parents did. Like, how? There were signs that were dead giveaways. For example, when Annie was pretending to be Hallie, she would use words that the real Hallie wouldn’t use, and be talking in French in front of her father then stating that she learned it at camp.
Now, even though there is a few things that are I scratch my head at, I will still always love this movie. Overall, I think this is a pretty good movie.
