When I first heard the news about the new Disney princess being a Pacific Islander, I was ecstatic!! Not only was I ecstatic because I am a Pacific Islander myself, but I was more excited that Disney producers decided to show the beauty of the island culture.

1. Island Beauty

When I was watching "Moana," I loved how the animators made Moana look different from a stereotypical Disney Princess. As you can see, Moana's hair is a bit like Merida's in "Brave" however, it's more wavy than curly and dark. Moana's body isn't stick skinny: she has broad shoulders, she has hips, and her legs are built. She also has confidence and she isn't afraid for pursuing her dreams. She also cares for her people and her family. Her island tribal outfit is beautiful!! I loved it so much! Typically, island tribal outfits have intricate designs that represents the essence of the islands.

2. Introducing Maui (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and Auli'i Cravalho (voice of Moana)

Now most of you know Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He is known for being a WWE wrestler known as "The Rock." He is also of Samoan descendant.. His character Maui is a demi-god and he is also a shape shifter which is pretty legit. Maui also has tribal tattoos all over his body and each tattoo represent his life events. His personality is spunky, caring, and sometimes honorary.

Introducing the new actress Auli'i Cravalho. She is a native Hawaiian. She was surprised by the Disney production crew and she was super excited! I know I would be!

She is super sweet and this girl can sing! She sang the song "How Far I'll Go" when Moana is wondering how she longs to go far beyond the ocean and to see what's out there. Check this link below:

3. Songs from "Moana"

As I was watching the movie, I recognized a few songs in "Moana." I recognized one of the songs from a Samoan band called Te Vaka. They are popular within the Pacific Islander nation. I actually hula danced to a couple of their songs. I love the music so much. The music touches my soul and my island roots. Here's a link to their music:

Okay, I have said enough. I do not want to spoil the movie for you guys. So go watch it! It's amazing!

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer. And if you haven't already guessed, it's beer. There are few things I take more seriously than my beer, in order are: sports... and beer. Here are my favorite summer brews:

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

5768
Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

You cannot beat the beach. Believe it or not (which many people may not), New England has a long and beautiful coastline. Most of my high school summers were spent sitting on the Wall at Hampton Beach, getting sunburnt and eating Acai bowls from The Secret Spot. The Wall was the place to be both during the day and at night. We begin our days there with a KB's bagel and coffee, and end them with pizza and ice cream. It’s not a New England summer without that 4 p.m. text from someone, “Who wants to meet at the Wall tonight?” Nighttime is for Tripoli’s Pizza, the sound of waves, and wishes on shooting stars. Wednesday nights are especially important, as those are the nights that Hampton Beach sets off the weekly firework display.
