To The Optimistic Girl In A Pessimistic World

You're more of a glass half full kind of girl, huh?

To The Optimistic Girl In A Pessimistic World
Shreya Tuluri

To the girl who sees the good in everything,

I know you, and I am you. In a world with so much hate and fear and anger and sadness, it's hard to find positivity. But you are that positivity to yourself, and to everyone around you. People may often ask you how you can be so positive when things are so bad.

But you see that there's so much good among the bad too. You take opportunities to look on the bright side. Where others may see a reason to hide, you take it as an opportunity to make yourself more confident. You take some distance between friends as an opportunity to grow as a person. You take a bad grade as a chance to try harder and work to improve next time. You see that those bad things don't last, and at the end of the day all people want is to be happy and live a good life. You take your time to turn to the sun, rather than chase the storms that have halted you in the past.

Whether people around you are focused on the imminent political turmoil, or bad relationships, or stress over school or money or whatever the situation may be, you always know that good will come out of it. You can't truly know the outcome, but you can always hope that things will turn out for the best and people will stop being so full of fear and hate and just live their lives. While there are many things to worry and be anxious over in this world, if you spend your life worrying and living in fear of getting hurt or losing everything, you will miss out on the really good and lovely things this world has to offer. You are like me, and you get that there isn't an infinite amount of time to make the best of everything this world has to offer. You understand that there is never any amount of positivity that is too much because people will always try to challenge you.

It's hard to be cheerful and see the bright side, but there is always a bright side. That could mean you learn a lesson on what not to do in the future, or you happen to be lucky enough to find exactly what you're looking for by seeing the positive. Happiness and positivity don't always come from the world you exist in, and I'm sure you've learned by now that most of the time it comes from inside you. You have to make your world brighter, and by making it brighter for you, maybe you'll help make a difference in someone else's life too. You don’t want to see people suffering or feeling full of sadness. You don’t want people to drown in sadness that they can’t control, because of the setup of the world they exist in. Life is hard, and things don’t always go the way we want, but that doesn’t make it a bad life. Bad days exist, bad lives do not. But of course, you already knew that.

There are so many tests of your happiness and positivity, especially because people want to see you burn to make themselves feel better. But I have news for you and your soul full of optimism. The way you look at the world is rare, and that mentality won’t last forever. Keep your faith in the way you feel. Defend your beliefs and your ability to make good out of bad. Don’t let people take away your sunshine because, although it’s something that may go unnoticed, it’s an important trait to cherish and hold close to your heart. Take pride in how you are, and spread happiness and positivity in all things you do.

Love,

The girl who's just like you

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
