An Open Letter To My Dog When I'm Away At College

What I want to say to my dog every time I have to go back to college.

I am packing up and getting ready to go home for spring break, and I am so excited because I get to see you for the first time in weeks. It broke my heart to leave you when I had to go back to school after winter break. You looked at me with your "don't leave me" face, and I almost didn't.

At school, it's not the same without you. I miss going out and playing fetch with you, and you never getting tired, no matter how many times I throw that stupid ball to the same place over and over again. I miss coming home and sharing the couch with you, and you trying to play catch in the house, no matter how many times that we have told you, "No." I miss using you as a pillow while I watch movies or sneaking you some food from the dinner table while everyone else is not looking just to make sure that I will stay your favorite.

If you think that I forget about you while I'm at school, I want you to know the truth. There are more photos of you in my room than those of my parents or my friends. This is because not only do I miss you more than them, but you seem to take better pictures than any of them anyway. Also, I talk about you all of the time. Any time my friends bring up their dog, I have to mention you and prove that you are the best dog anyone could ask for. I always have a photo ready to show them how cute you are and how you are far more superior than their dog.

While this past semester has been dragging by because you have been so far away from me, I think we needed this time apart. I think we have taken each other for granted, and this time apart really showed me how much you mean to me. I won't yell at you when you almost trip me because you have no sense of personal space or when you stand on me to see better out the window while I am sitting on the couch; I know they are the ways you show you love me. I also cannot wait to see you again because you have the best "welcome home" display of affection that I have ever seen, and I cannot wait for you to attack me with kisses and jump on me to say, "Hello." I love you puppy, and sorry I have been away for so long.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
