An Open Letter to Cookout

You've been there for me at my best and worst.

I don't know why it's taken me so long to write this. I guess I was waiting for the right time.

You were there for me after dance recitals when I was little, to even now when I'm just feeling a midnight snack. I fell in love with the chicken strip tray and seasoned fries, but my life was changed for the better when you introduced the cheddar rounds.

You thought you were being sly when you raised your cookout tray prices, but I noticed, and it honestly hurt a little. You are known for being the best deal in my college town, and you still are but I was honestly offended when you raised your prices.

I think I can speak for all college students when I say that you have saved us from some pretty interesting nights. When the uber pulls up to you everyone gets excited, so thank you Cookout for being the shining light at the end of the tunnel.

You have been there for me for as long as I can remember. Being from North Carolina I grew up being surrounded by you, and going to you to hang out with pals and just have a great time. You have been the gathering place throughout high school and college.

When people ask what Cheer-wine is, and why it is included in the vending machine really breaks my heart, but I am glad that you stay true to your roots and continue to provide it.

When I walk into Cookout and I hear Christian music playing it always puts a smile on my face. I am glad that you continue to provide a positive atmosphere for us college kids because we really need it. When finals week approaches and stress is high, you are the reason we all get through it and have something to look forward to.

From burgers to chicken strips and wraps in between, you have such a wide variety for any eater. The milkshakes are also super bomb, and the deals you offer are unbeatable. Your cookout sauce is also something that can't be competed with, so thank you for that.

So, thank you Cookout for being a real one and getting not only me but every single college kid through hard times. Never leave us, and remember to always keep the Cheerwine and cookout sauce handy.

Sincerely,

a hungry college student

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
