The creation of Netflix Instant has made it possible for us to watch hundreds of television shows. From my own personal experience, I have come to realize that is is both a blessing and a curse. Not only are there no commercials, but you can fast forward through the theme song, and there’s a bunch of shows to choose from. All of these seem to be good things but that is not always true. The lack of commercials means I sit in front of the TV for hours and usually forget to go to the bathroom. The ability to fast forward through the theme song means that I usually convince myself that fast forwarding and shaving a minute off the episode time will add to the time I can spend watching more episodes. This is never the case and I’m almost always late for something. The fact that there are a lot of shows to choose from means I usually spend more time picking a show than I do actually watching it. One day while I was scrolling through Netflix I discovered a show titled “One Tree Hill.” Little did I know this show would ruin my life.
First of all,”One Tree Hill” consists of a total of nine seasons. I wanted a show I could space out that would occupy me for awhile. I thought picking a lengthy nine season show was a pretty safe bet. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I became obsessed and watched all nine seasons in a matter of one month. This isn’t my quickest binge watch but I’d say it’s pretty impressive. The show was just too good and I found myself watching about six episodes a day. I’ll put that into perspective for you; I spent an average of six hours a day for a month watching a television show that had been off the air for over three years. I sometimes went for days without seeing my mom and we live in the same house. Clearly, “One Tree Hill” is addictive and terrible.
Secondly, “One Tree Hill” put me through a whirlwind of emotions. Between the heartbreaks, near death experiences, and actual deaths, I was a mess at least 99% of the time I spent watching this show. Don’t get me wrong there are some lighthearted episodes but the majority of the 187 episodes are tear-jerkers. I hated every character for one reason or another at least once.
Finally, you’ll wish the characters were real people. You’ll definitely fall in love with at least one of the two Scott brothers and you’ll probably wish for Brooke Davis to be your best friend. I started the series with a crush on Lucas Scott but by the end of the first season I decided Nathan Scott was more my type. He starts out as a jerk but trust me he is the best character on that show (and it helps that he’s not bad to look at either).
If you’re considering watching “One Tree Hill” make sure you strongly consider these three points I’ve laid out. While watching the show you’ll learn anything you want to happen probably won’t. It’s highly addictive and spoiler alert; Dan Scott will never die.
