It's OK To Not Be OK

Life gets rough sometimes, and it is perfectly fine to get overwhelmed or confused or sad or whatever you are feeling...just do not let yourself stay there for too long.

It's OK To Not Be OK
Taylor Newswander

If you have ever gotten on a rollercoaster and about halfway up the first hill wondered why you were there and felt like the only thing you wanted was to GET OFF NOW... you were not "okay." But that was alright because you survived it and probably had a good time overall. That fear on hill one did not take away the exhilaration of the ride. And life is like that rollercoaster sometimes. Or, I should say, all the time.

I'd love to be able to tell you how to get through it, but I don't think I'm qualified... I can't even figure it out for myself. So here are ten quotes that have gotten me through more than once.

"If it doesn't challenge you..."

We are all ever-changing beings as we go through this thing we call life. We will never change without reason. Maybe the challenge you are facing today is necessary to make you into the person you need to be tomorrow.

You will be okay again, I promise!

This is the first quote that always comes up when I search "I'm not okay" and so I'm just going to leave it here for you to feel out how you need to.

Good ol' Oscar

If you are hurting or struggling, that means you are actually doing something with your life that matters... You're living, not existing. And that's good, even though it is hard sometimes.

Moana vibes, anyone?

We're all trying to figure out who we are...I think we have to be very not okay in order to become more okay with ourselves.

What's got you down, anyway?

Often times I find myself struggling because there's something in my mind I'm putting off and trying to avoid. Avoidance is never the answer!

Be a phoenix. Or play "The Phoenix" by Fall Out Boy. Either works.

So light it up up up, light it up up up- YOU'RE GONNA GET BACK YOUR FIRE.

Stop knocking on doors that aren't yours

Forever torn between "it won't happen if you don't try" and "don't waste your time on things that aren't meant for you." I think this is a nice happy medium. Like, try...but then move on.

Throw out that mental plan of yours!

Sometimes my need to plan everything out gets in my own way...we all probably need to get better at just trusting the timing of things, that things happen when they happen whether we are ready for them or not.

Quitters never win

Woohoo, look at you falling apart and going places!

Probably the most useful information here

All jokes aside, it is perfectly okay to just be authentic in whatever emotion you are feeling right now. Actually, it's more than okay- you should demand this from yourself. We all struggle and we all are still growing and figuring things out. That's the beauty in our humanity.

I hope my natural inclination to make a joke brought a smile to your face, and I hope something you found here did make what you are feeling right now a little easier to bear. Just remember, you survived everything so far and will continue to do so until the very last struggle. Today's struggle doesn't deserve to be your last, so keep going. Don't be afraid to reach out if you need help, and please don't be afraid of yourself. You are wonderful.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
