Not Everyone Misses High School

They probably aren't the best four years of your life...

Are you sick of hearing the phrases like "oh, you will miss high school once you're out" or, "oh they are the best four years of your life!"? Well if you are, and feel very strongly that you won't miss high school, I am here to tell you that you are not alone. I am going on my third year of being out of high school, and honestly, I do not miss it at all. Not even one bit!

In all honesty, high school will probably not be the best four years of your life, and I am not saying that to be a Debbie Downer. If anything, I feel high school is the most awkward and quite possibly worst years of your life. If you really analyze high school, you will see how weird and hormonal the people are. In addition to all of the raging hormones racing around the halls, the people can be horrible and cruel, even if you're "popular". Now, I am not trying to tell you that once you graduate high school, that everything will magically get perfect. From what I have experienced so far, people's hormones defiantly tend to even out and they become more like human beings again. Also, when someone is being rude to you or bullying you, you can take care of it yourself by standing up for yourself without getting written up or anything because everyone is supposed to be an adult.

Another reason high school sucked is you don't truly have freedom (even though that's what all of your teachers try to tell you). You are by law required to be in school for 990 hours a school year according to the US Department of Education. And then on top of the required school time, you have homework that you must complete and tests to study for in order to pass, which on average high school students will spend about 17 hours preparing for classes, according to USA Today. If you do the math ad add that up, you're spending 1,602 hours on school. I am sorry but last time I checked, where is there much time for yourself in there? One of the many advantages of college is that you get to pick your own schedule and take as many (or as little) classes you would like to.

Last, but not least, in high school, you most likely won't be friends with most of the people that you were friends with. If anything, you will become friends with the people that you really didn't think of as a friend and the quality of those friendships will be so much better. I know that after I graduated high school, most of my friend just disappeared or just flat out started hating me for no reason, and the people that I didn't exactly know became my friends. In addition to this, my pool of friends shrank to about 4 people, and they have such better quality than most of the "friendships" that I had in high school. Also in college, you will meet so many more people, and will probably have those two go to friends for everything and couldn't imagine life without them.

So, looking at the big picture, high school is just four years of your life, and will most likely mean nothing to you after you get out and you probably won't miss it. But, that is completely normal and you are not alone. So the next time someone says that you will miss it and you're just saying that because you are an annoying teenager, you can tell them with confidence that a lot of people feel the same way, even people who have been out for a bit.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
