This past weekend, I traveled to Columbia, South Carolina to visit my little sister at the University of South Carolina. I had a great time, and it is a really cool school. It was weird how different it felt culturally from a northern school. Here is what it looked like through my northern eyes.
First thing that I noticed was how people dress. Seemingly every guy wears short khaki or denim shorts, white mid-calves, some dad shoes, sunglasses with the little strap thing, and a button up t-shirt or polo. Essentially, kind of like this guy from We’re the Millers all the way on the right.
The first thing I noticed about girls dress is that they seemingly don’t wear pants, but just wear ginormous tee shirts. Also, I believe the tee shirts have to be a pocket tee or pastel colored.
When going out, girls apparently wear shoes that are straight out of a 70s movie, here is an example.
Y’all. I have never heard a word used so often, and it just seems out of place to my northern ears.
Lastly, they get dresssed up for tailgate. It seems backwards to me to dress nice to go stand in a grass field or gravel lot and tailgate. It also seems like a lot of unecessary work, but that’s just me.
