Nobody Remembers The Nights They Stayed In And Studied

A low GPA doesn't have to be the deal-breaker!

Grade point averages can be so misleading. I feel like there are so many pros and cons of grade point averages (well, mostly cons). My GPA sucks. My 2.48 GPA gets in the way of so many things and it's complete bullshit, but as they say, nobody remembers the nights they stayed in and studied...

I live for the weekends. After my 20 hour work week, loads of homework from being a full-time student, and being highly involved on campus, I look forward to having a fun night out with my friends. The week is so busy, so when it's the weekend I love to go the bar (who doesn't though?). College students seriously work so hard. For those students that balance work and school and have a high GPA, I'm jealous. Please message me on facebook and tell me all your tips and tricks - but right now, this article is for my hard-working, street smart, weekend loving badass low GPA students.

Your GPA doesn't describe who you are.

Our GPA is so low, and I know we wish more than anything that it was higher. However, I know that a 3 digit number doesn't describe who we are. Does our GPA include our job title and what we do? Does it calculate how involved we are on campus? & I damn well know that our GPA doesn't cut us a break when we had a hard week with personal bumps in the road or stress levels. It doesn't show our personality and how well you work with people or even your sense of humor! Your GPA only describes how well you did in your classes which are small factors of what makes you, you! Yes, education is highly important and I'm not saying that you shouldn't study for that test you have next week. It's important to do the best you possibly can and if you get a C on a test, be happy that you passed!

It's very frustrating when someone gets an A on a test they barely studied for, and you were up all night studying for a C. But you know what - you have so many other strengths! Maybe you play sports and kick ass at that, or maybe you're a piano prodigy. I think we forget that C's aren't bad. C's are AVERAGE! They're the average grade. So good for you for getting a C on a test! I think you did great! (C's are my favorite grade anyways because my name starts with a C...)

If someone doesn't hire you because of your GPA, it's their loss.

Don't be sad about an internship you couldn't apply for because your GPA wasn't high enough. They lost out on a great student! They aren't realizing that you wrote a sponsorship plan for your organization you work at now, or how you completed a business media kit for an online corporate business. They didn't realize that you were on the executive board for your school organization that you started, or how you bust your ass to volunteer in your community! Those qualities they forgot to see are 10X more important than how you did in your Humanities III class. If a grade in Humanities III is more important than your accomplishments and strengths, you probably will be better off without that internship anyways (just saying.) When you're a successful entrepreneur and hiring those 2.0 GPA students and being the new trend, they will wish they hired you!

But like I said before, if you have a 4.0, I'm jealous!

I was serious about messaging me on Facebook and telling me how you do it! Some people are just smarter than others. I'm definitely more street smart than book smart, and my best friend is both book smart and street smart, so it is possible to be both (we just weren't that lucky). I'm lucky to call her my best friend because not only is she successful, but has a great GPA and awesome grades. I always say, "I don't know how you do it" because it's so hard to receive a 4.0. Having a high GPA is important, but it's not everything and I just want my 2.48 GPA students to know that!

Keep working hard, studying hard, and partying hard. Treat yourself to a fun weekend because nobody remembers the nights they stayed in. I promise.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
