There is nothing I love more than a good romance movie, and Nicholas Sparks is the absolute best. Growing up, I watched these movies with my mom, and we would cry our eyes out in the theater and on our couch. Now, I watch them with my roommate in our dorm, and she laughs at me as I sob over the same movies over and over again. I have finally seen all eleven Nicholas Sparks movies, and with some help with my roommate, I have ranked them from worst to best.
11. Nights in Rodanthe
GiphyAn absolute jerk meets an emotional mess of a woman. They continuously yell at each other and, despite being total strangers, somehow completely understand each other. Between all the yelling, they fall in love and survive a hurricane. Also, there's no way the inn they're in would survive a hurricane. There's just no way.
10. Message in a Bottle
This movie has confusing, somewhat unexplained deaths that are meant to play a huge role in the plot. The ending is sad just for the sake of being sad rather than to actual advance the storyline in some way.
9. The Choice
GiphyThis is a cute story and a great relationship, but the plot is slow and dry. The ending is way too far-fetched for me, and the rest of the movie is an extremely drawn-out backstory leading up to this big choice that is then made in just a few scenes.
8. The Last Song
GiphyThis movie would be one of my favorites if the acting was just better. It's too melodramatic and over the top for my liking. All that teenage angst!
7. The Lucky One
GiphyThe concept of this movie draws me in every time, and the characters and plot are captivating. The problem: Beth seems so much older than Logan, making the relationship slightly uncomfortable to watch unfold.
6. Dear John
GiphyChanning Tatum and Amanda Seyfried's chemistry is amazing, making the two-week romance feel believable and like the characters truly are soulmates. Savannah's decisions leave everyone unhappy, and the ending is completely unfulfilling. It leaves me wanting so much more for the characters, which is maybe why I like this movie so much. I feel so attached to every character.
5. A Walk to Remember
GiphyThis movie is, simply put, perfection. The relationship between Landon and Jamie is so pure and affectionate. You can really just feel the love between them.
4. The Notebook
GiphyAllie is one of my least favorite Nicholas Sparks characters. I find her annoying quite frankly. However, the power of Noah and Allie's love that keeps bringing them back together despite all odds makes me root for them. The ending is beautiful, heartwarming, and heart-wrenching all at once, making this a classic.
3. The Longest Ride
GiphyThe intertwining of Sophie and Luke's budding relationship with the past relationship of Ira and Ruth is a work of art. The parallels between the love stories are a heartbreaking masterpiece. Also, the ending is just iconic.
2. The Best of Me
GiphyThis movie will break my heart every single time. The progression of Amanda and Dawson as individuals between their teenage years and the present day is captivating, as is their relationship with one another. Their reunion is believable, and the ending is the perfect balance of beautiful and tragic.
1. Safe Haven
GiphyKatie and Alex are seemingly damaged individuals who learn to move forward and love again side-by-side. This movie handles a difficult issue, domestic abuse, wonderfully, while adding that bit of Nicholas Sparks magic that we all know and love.
