The Rough Start Of Spring Semester

As the new school semester just started in addition to the new year, there are many things that are circling our minds as university students. All the school work, all the friendships and we can't forget, all the drama. I can definitely say that coming into this new semester and this new year, I had so many high expectations, but in reality, it was something different. Not that it was a bad experience, but I can definitely say that it started off as a rough journey. However, I know that this semester and this new year can only go up from here.

Let's talk about one thing at a time. The first thing is school. I was so prepared for my classes and so motivated to study hard and get good grades, but I just can't muster up the energy to do so. I think that this also ties in with all the other features to consider when attending university. For instance, social life. I thought that a new year and new semester meant a new beginning with a good group of friends. I love the new friends that I met, but I feel that it isn't the best time for me to socialize. With all the stress and drama that piles up in college, it can be difficult to just ignore and have a fresh start.

Then, with thinking about the future and career goals. It is difficult, especially as a junior who only has one year left of undergrad to put your future career aside. I feel that this semester has too many things to take into consideration that I end up not focusing on any aspect of my college life or personal life. But, one thing that I can say is that I want to make this one of my best semesters. This is a time where I am young and always making mistakes. I want to make everything now and learn from them rather than just keeping it bottled up inside and never confronting anything.

One thing that I hope to gain from this rough start is a clear path and a sense of where I am going and what I really want. Put yourself and your needs and wants over everything before you help others. It is vital to know yourself before you give advice to others. Let's just have hope and good thoughts about the future ahead and learn from this rough start.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
