New Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving—a revered holiday that gives us a day, or a couple days, off of work to spend time with our family and stuff our faces with food that's sure to put us in a coma. But have you ever felt like you wanted to spruce up this holiday and make it more unique and lively? Here are some new Thanksgiving traditions that are certain to make their way into your holiday pastimes!

1. What to bring if you're invited to a Thanksgiving dinner

If you or anyone you knows has ever hosted this classic dinner, then you know how much work is put into the meal and how much is usually left over. So, instead of bringing wine or another stuffing, bring a loaf of bread and a condiment! And I know what you're thinking: Why would I bring just a loaf of bread and some mustard? Since you know there's definitely going to be leftovers, bring your host these items so that they can make themselves some amazing sandwiches the next couple of days after Thanksgiving! Your host will appreciate you thinking about them and thinking ahead!

2. A Leftovers Dinner

Leftovers are about as inevitable as the Browns losing this Sunday, so why not try to get rid of them with some of your closest family and friends? We all know Thanksgiving is spent with your family, but if you have an absurd amount of leftovers, have a Leftovers Dinner where you invite all of your friends you haven't seen yet! The goal is to have your friends bring some of their leftovers so it's a full Thanksgiving dinner for everyone to enjoy!

3. Friends and Family Cookbook

Have you ever had a family member or friend bring a dish and you just had to have the recipe? Have all of your guests bring a recipe or email it to you ahead of time, so you can type them up and print out a cookbook for everyone to take home! It's a great annual memento that will last them longer than that 22-pound turkey Uncle Fred just had to bring!

4. Family Game of Football

Make sure your appetites are as big as the meal you've prepared! Try hosting a flag football game for anyone who wants to play! Not only will it bring everyone closer, but you'll be sure to be hungry by time that turkey is done. Plus, it'll all give you something to talk about at the dinner table!

So this year, try adding in some of these new Thanksgiving ideas! And who knows, they might just become your favorite holiday tradition!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
